Silphium (2027), Lansing, Michigan, USA Sep 10, 2006 On tap at the park brewpub, sampled early August. Ruddy orange body, thin to no head. Light to absent body, with poorly developed bready malts that fail to buffer the palate against strange sour sweaty off-notes that are also present in the aroma. Lifeless stale dreck. I can only pray that the thousands of visitors to the falls who enter this brewpub avoid Porcupine Pale Ale, which may have been secretly developed to help devastate the craft beer movement. CharlesDarwin (1406), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 14, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. Pour of hazed orange amber, with a fringe of light fold. Light aroma of pepperoni. Flavor is a meaty sour hop sugar. Very tart West Coast hops, not carried by body or alcohol. Touches of sloppy pork fat edges. Thin bodied with a touch of sweet orange and light grapefruit. Palate has a note of toast, but mostly grass.
