COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
TailGate Beer does an American take on the German classic. This hard-to-pronounce cloudy ale uses a traditional "hefe" (yeast) to develop notes of citrus and spice. Proud of the name’s "weizen" (wheat) base ingredient, TGB draws most of its flavor from the famed grass plant. This Hefe is one truly crisp and refreshingly unfiltered ale that garnishes well with a lemon or an orange! Be sure to impress your friends with your fine tuned palate and cultured vocabulary next time you belly up to your TailGate Beer “HEH-feh-vite-zehn.

First brewed at Skyscraper in California, moved in 2010 to Cold Spring.

Can into pint glass. Looks like an orange Popsicle melted in the glass. Absent head. Nose is very sweet, vanilla and creamsicle. Fairly similar in the mouth, a bit sticky and more artificial chorus. Finished with a bit of spice, clove and cinnamon. The bit of yeast on the bottom is disturbingly orange as well. Fair for whatever it is, but it ain’t a hefe.

12oz can pours with a clear gold body and zero (nada) head. The aroma has sugary apple juice, brown sugar drenched peach slices and then a dash of grainy sort of doughy malts. The taste brings up fruity sweetness that has a firm malt liquor “street legal” estery sweet sugary fruitiness to it. This comes across just as the nose, sadly, but in liquid form. I find nothing redeeming here. Sure glad I was able to get the 12oz-er rather than the big can.

Can poured a hazy gold with a small lasting white head. Aromas of wheat, yeast, butterscotch and light lemon zest. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of wheat, yeast, light butterscotch and a hint of lemon with a smooth finish.

12 ounce can purchased at Grocery Outlet in Woodland, CA. Some comedic genius written on this can. Anyway. The aroma has corn and DMS, and phenolic character. Medicinal band-aids present themselves. Apple is also present. Pretty much one of the more flawed beers I have ever quaffed. Pretty revolting. Minutely hazy golden body with a small, quickly dissipating white head present. Kinda clear for the style. Starts with a sweet, fruity, estery flavoring. Develops some acetyl aldehyde in the middle. Light cereal malts follow. Finishes with sweet, worty sugars. What the fuck is this shit?

can. Golden with one finger head. Hefeweizen with substantial metallic flavor. There’s something seriously not right here.

12 oz can pours a hazy golden color with a thin white head that leaves hardly any lacing. Smells of wheat, lemon and dough. Tastes of all the same things in the smell but is a litte wierd for a hef. Mouthfeel is thin and watery with minimal carbonation. This is probably one of the worse heffeweizens I’ve ever had. Refreshing but that’s about it.

Probably the worst Hefe I’ve ever tried. I had only a 3 oz. sample and didn’t even want to finish it. Nose was musty, flavor with muddled, and it just wasn’t any good.

Can; poured a dull gold color with an average head. Not all that appealing for this style. Aroma of wheat and metal. Again not indicative of the style. Flavor not as bad as expected, but not really true to style.

Can. Pours hazy golden orange with a white head. Wheaty base, light diacetyl, and lighter fruity yeasty notes. Not awful.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2012 Can, consumed at the lake. Metallic sweet aroma, tinned pineapple Sweetness, fairly featureless but unthreatening. Would never peg this as a hefeweizen though.
