COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
TailGate Beer does an American take on the German classic. This hard-to-pronounce cloudy ale uses a traditional "hefe" (yeast) to develop notes of citrus and spice. Proud of the name’s "weizen" (wheat) base ingredient, TGB draws most of its flavor from the famed grass plant. This Hefe is one truly crisp and refreshingly unfiltered ale that garnishes well with a lemon or an orange! Be sure to impress your friends with your fine tuned palate and cultured vocabulary next time you belly up to your TailGate Beer “HEH-feh-vite-zehn.

First brewed at Skyscraper in California, moved in 2010 to Cold Spring.

Can; poured a dull gold color with an average head. Not all that appealing for this style. Aroma of wheat and metal. Again not indicative of the style. Flavor not as bad as expected, but not really true to style.

Can. Pours hazy golden orange with a white head. Wheaty base, light diacetyl, and lighter fruity yeasty notes. Not awful.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2012 Can, consumed at the lake. Metallic sweet aroma, tinned pineapple Sweetness, fairly featureless but unthreatening. Would never peg this as a hefeweizen though.

Can: If you really hate the opponent give them this brew! Just and plainly poor.

Your average American Hefe. Watery, without much flavor, and overly done on the wheat. Had to try a craft beer called Tailgate though ;).

Available at the St. Paul Summer Beer Fest. Hazy yellow pour, white head. Weak hefe, some spice on the aroma.

Hazy gold pour, white head. Aroma of wheat, coriander, some yeasty honeyed notes, caramel malt and some really odd perfumed note. And sadly the perfumed note carries intot he flavor with some wheat and spice flavors. Not so great.

Can from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours light gold with a fizzy white head. Aroma seems more bubble gum than banana. Maybe there’s a touch of spice. Near med body. Flavor is messy floral/fruit. I’m not getting any banana, and the spice is pretty minimal. However, the finish does suggest spice, which might be very light clove. Ends a bit papery. Even gummy.

Bottle from Keg N Bottle #2: Appearance is a glowing hazed hef with tons of sediment floating about. At first, the head is a fluffy topping of head but will diminish quickly and turns into a layer of film covering foam. Faint nose of wet grains and nothing else. The flavor is a grain and malt based beer with only a hint of spices added but according to my taste this comes across artificial and I would rather drink a Blue Moon.

12 oz. can from Total Wine - Pours a hazy amber color with a one and a half finger thick white head. Aroma is bread and herbal hops. Flavor is much of the same. Didn’t get any banana and cloves which we come to expect from a German Hefe. Has a slight citrus finish. Medium body. Worth a try.
