A type of lager beer made from barley malt, hops and ponlai rice, with a golden hue and unique taste, it is honored world-wide.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2006 Large bottle (1L I think), bought in Taiwan. Classic clear-golden yellow pale lager appearance. Surprisingly, I can pick out some green hops in the aroma. Palate is on the thin side, but finishes nicely with a very mild hop note. Better than I expected-- I wonder if this is because I had it in its country of origin (and maybe therefore it was fresher)?

Pours yellow with a modest white head and a nondeScript aroma. There is a light malt flavor with a trace of rice.

On of those steel cans brought back from Taiwan thanks to Wayne. Thanks a ton man! Pours a clear golden color with a tiny white head. The aroma is sweet malts, rice and grainy notes. The taste is smooth; lots of rice and grainy flavors, some light earth malts, light hops and a very clean and light flavor. Very quaffable and clean. Not bad at all. My first Taiwanese beer! Thanks Wayne.

Bottle. Light gold with a white head. Grainy, slightly corny, with a little bit of a dirty grainy finish. Not awful.

Bottle at Sergio’s, Louisville KY. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (wort, grain, husks), with a note of paper. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean, husky. Light body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. A shameless country tick. Obviously kinda old but clearly garbage.

Pours yellow with a generous white head. Smells skunky. Tastes of dry malt and corn. Very inoffensive.

Can from a local shop in Taipei. Clear light golden with a white head. A typical boring Asian Lager. Thin and sweet with cardboard, light fruit and metal. Really boring.

Pale in the glass, grainy in the nose. The beer starts very watery, slightly sweet. The mainpart is on the one hand watery, on the other hand slightly sweetish-grainy. In the aftertaste smooth water, slightly sweet with the typical rice-beer-aroma.
OK, but nothing special. --> 7/12/6/6
