A type of lager beer made from barley malt, hops and ponlai rice, with a golden hue and unique taste, it is honored world-wide.

600ml bottle. Iím not expecting much from this guy. Very plain bottle Poured into pint glass. Pours pale golden yellow. Fizzy white head that is bubbling away quickly. Light aroma of rice, grass and hop. Flavor is watery, sweet, and grassy. Barely there bitterness. Its really not horrible, just not "good." Better than I was expecting. Drinkable.

H-Mart, Merrifield, VA 330ml can: Pours a quickly dissipating head with straw body. Aroma is weak. Taste is weaker. Taste is actually slightly offensive, so I donít know what all these people be saying about it not being offensive. I think I got beef with the aftertaste. There is a modicum of hops, but who cares really. Well, at least I tried a beer from Taiwan.

Ricey Asian beer water, the usual. Nothing different about this then your Kirin or whateves. Boom.

Poured from 330mL can. Clear, pale yellow with foamy white head. Mild corn and sweet malt aroma. Quite light body, rather bland taste.

So, this is a beer? There is little beer flavour to commend it. Still, what flavour it does have is not objectionable. Maybe they could spend what they saved on the can graphics to add some flavour!

Pretty standard Asian lager, not much but a sweetish taste. Tasted it, rated it...enough.

Bottle. Golden color with a small white head. Very thin and very light malty body with a thin palate. Very boring and watery.

What a great surprise to have this one (new country!) offered at a Vietnam Airlines flight between Hanoi and Hong Kong! Pours clear golden with a fizzy snow white head. Weak hop and flower aroma with a note of citrus - not a lot going on. Thin and a bit harsh in the flavor, light malt and some hop with a skunky note. Not very good at all.

Pours in into a light golden color with a white head that disappeared immediately. Metalic and skunky.

April 25th, 2012 - A regular shopping trip one day turned into an outing to the local Taiwanese market. Itís a well lit, slightly damp cornucopia of exceedingly fresh fish, vibrant greens and vegetables and all kinds of fun Taiwanese snacks, spices and sippable goodies. Somewhere near the check out lane I spotted Taiwanís eponymous beer: Taiwan beer. For a buck a bottle I couldnít decline the opportunity to try the beer that represents the whole of an island. Sadly, I donít think the beer does justice to the social and economic richness of its homeland. Itís basically a terrible pale lager with a high fructose corn syrup laden cereal smell, pale and wan flavor and more terrible corn syrup flavors in the taste. This beer is, frankly, terrible and a diplomatic disaster.
