Tallgrass Ale is the flagship beer of Tallgrass Brewing Company, and we think it will be your new favorite beer! Truly a craft beer, the recipe was first brewed by Jeff as a 10-gallon batch of homebrew. Of all his homebrew recipes, Jeff chose Tallgrass Ale as the flagship beer because of the beer’s surprising light body, extraordinarily smooth and balanced profile, great taste, and clean finish. The first time Jeff brewed Tallgrass Ale he thought it looked a little too dark, but after he kegged that first batch, the finished beer was really, really tasty! That first little 10-gallon batch of Tallgrass was gone way too fast!

The beer was different from anything he or his friends could find on tap or on the shelf. It was a beer that was a deep chestnut color, yet had a great flavor and was so light tasting that it kept you wanting more. The distinctive look and taste of Tallgrass Ale comes from our unique blend of German, English, and American-style malts and a generous helping of both American and traditional English hops. These ingredients, our English brewer’s yeast, and the Flint Hills’ excellent brewing water gives Tallgrass Ale a distinctive, toffee-highlighted taste and smooth profile that is always drinkable.

Tallgrass Ale is available on tap and in bottles in bars and restaurants throughout Kansas, so try it at your favorite local bar. If they don’t have it, ask for it! Or, you can stop by our brewery in Manhattan and buy some for yourself after a tour and a free sample!

Bottle thanks to cavie. Pours with a tan head and an amber body. Aroma of pine and husk. Taste is watery and vegital with light hops. Watery as hell.

Aroma of dark malts, molasses, and peanuts. Flavors of toffee, caramel, roasted nuts, and slight earth. Smooth and mellow. Not really an exciting brew and the price of a four pack at nine bucks is absurd. Much better options and at a better price point.

As described this one pours very dark, but clear. The burgundy color of the can actually is almost a good sample of the color. The aroma consists of a dark whole grain bread mixed with a bit of maple syrup. The taste starts off with a high malt content and finishes smooth with a slightly smokey flavor. Very mild flavor considering the color of the beer. The finish is actually very crisp without a lot of lingering flavor or wetness. Actually a good dark beer to drink in the summertime. Easy drinking, low on robust flavor, but flavorful enough without overpowering.

Tasted from a tallboy can at The Handle Bar in Saint Louis, Missouri. Poured a transparent brown color with creamy beige head, somewhat lasting with a little lace. Aromas of grain, bread, toast, nuts, fruit, and more hops than a true-to-style brown ale. Some complexity in the malt bill, a very nice balance of sweetness to bitterness. Flavors of brown bread, fruitcake, some caramel and toffee, a hint of coffee with cream. Nice fruity finish. Tasty and very drinkable. I just wish it was higher gravity.

Can from a neighbor. Malt backbone of caramel, chocolate, and nutty malts with just enough hops to balance it out. Pretty straight forward and does the job, but not exciting enough to seek out again.

Tap-pours dark brown with a lite tan head with minor lacing. nose is nutty, lite hops, earthy and lite metallic chocolate note. flavors are nutty and lite chocllate with some lite mineral notes. this is actually very tasty and lite for the style-almost a mild ale than a brown. good medium palate with soft carbonaion, slick mouthfeal and a solid nutty lite metallic finish. this is a very solid mild ale in my book.

Beer sucks, three of us tried and it all poured it down the drain. It’s thin and doesn’t have much flavor, the flavor that is there is flat malt. Others thought it tasted like dirty and I didn’t disagree.

Location/Date:Bottle poured on November 28th, 2011.

Appearance: Pours a medium dark brown that is semi-opaque.
Aroma: Aroma is malty and some caramel.
Taste: Sweet front, then malty balance that isn’t overpowering.
Palate:Light body, a little bit of fizz, longer finish.

Summary: My first Kansas tick! This beer has a nice amount of flavor considering it is lower in alcohol(which can be a good thing). I could definitely drink a few of these in one sitting.

16 ounce can. Pours a clear reddish brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt and a bit of chocolate. Taste is sweet malt, caramel, toffee and chocolate. Pleasant.
