This beer was known as Area 51 IPA during development. Ethos is our new West Coast style IPA...double dry-hopped using 6 different hop varietals. Juicy, citrusy, dank.

So. my first thought is that Iím going to compare Ethos IPA to my local legend Surly Furious. Both come in 16oz cans. Price point between the two is negligible. Both have pretty high IBUs while maintaining a reasonable ABV. Surly: 99/6.2% Ethos 110/6.7% That is about as far as the comparison goes. Ethos could be described as decent to good...Surly is world class. First and foremost Ethos is a hop bomb. There is no pretense of balance here. West Coast my ass, there are hopheads out there in the heartland. On the lighter side of the classic IPA amber color with a light, thin white head. The aroma stands tall with dank earthy, tropical fruit and apricot hop notes. Initial tasting provides lots of grapefruit, and citrus tang but falls apart fairly quickly. The carbonation is light. Surprisingly at 110 IBUs the bitterness is not as assertive as one would expect. The mouthfeel could best be described as thin and lacking depth. While tasty, this is very much one note and not nearly as refreshing as I had hoped. This did get better as it warmed a bit, a little more sweetness came through but this brew still lacked "completeness" In the crowded world of IPAs this falls into the pedestrian side of the equation.

Location: Draft at the Map Room, 7/16/14

Aroma: The aroma is citrus hop, some tropical notes, and a bit of caramel as well
Appearance: Pours a caramel-orange color with a small off-white head and some drippy lace
Flavor: Flavor-wise much the same as the nose, citrus, a little malt sweetness, decent bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a pretty solid mouthfeel, and a mid-dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a solid IPA. It is not an amazing beer by any means, but something I found to be perfectly drinkable.

Cloudy dark orange, one-finger head. Smell is grapefruit peel, tangerine, pine, grass. Quite bitter and juicy; think of biting into a tangerine and getting a good bit of the pith along with it (but not as unpleasant). Some caramel, biscuit tones. Pretty good.

16oz can. Pours hazy amber orange, stiff, delicately laced white head. Resin-grass hop aroma, taste is bitter hop on the fore, slight malt sweet on the back. Itís a bitter one, not bad for that.

(can - 16 oz) Cloudy orange pour with a ton of white head. Huge citrus and pine aroma. Very juicy with some resin under it. Lots of citrus and hops in the flavor with a very peppery undertone that hits hard but then goes away for a lightly citrusy and sweet finish.

Can from ReedM. Pours hazy amber with a large foamy near white head. Aroma of light caramel with citrus and resin hop. Med body. Flavor is a little dank. Lots and lots of hop. Finishes not too harshly bitter. But very hoppy.

Much thanks to Dave. pours out a nice copper color with a big off white head. Aroma is of some nice bitter citrus, light pine, mild fruity notes and som bready malts. Taste drops off slightly, some citrus rind, light pine and bready caramel malts, light metallic notes and lingering bitterness. Solid
