Tallgrass Ale is the flagship beer of Tallgrass Brewing Company, and we think it will be your new favorite beer! Truly a craft beer, the recipe was first brewed by Jeff as a 10-gallon batch of homebrew. Of all his homebrew recipes, Jeff chose Tallgrass Ale as the flagship beer because of the beer’s surprising light body, extraordinarily smooth and balanced profile, great taste, and clean finish. The first time Jeff brewed Tallgrass Ale he thought it looked a little too dark, but after he kegged that first batch, the finished beer was really, really tasty! That first little 10-gallon batch of Tallgrass was gone way too fast!

The beer was different from anything he or his friends could find on tap or on the shelf. It was a beer that was a deep chestnut color, yet had a great flavor and was so light tasting that it kept you wanting more. The distinctive look and taste of Tallgrass Ale comes from our unique blend of German, English, and American-style malts and a generous helping of both American and traditional English hops. These ingredients, our English brewer’s yeast, and the Flint Hills’ excellent brewing water gives Tallgrass Ale a distinctive, toffee-highlighted taste and smooth profile that is always drinkable.

Tallgrass Ale is available on tap in bars and restaurants throughout our distribution area, so try it at your favorite local bar. If they don’t have it, ask for it! Or, you can stop by our brewery in Manhattan and buy some for yourself after a tour and a free sample!

I like browns; this, not so much. thin I guess you could say there is some verrrry faint tones of toffee but this is watered down average stuff here.

Not really a brown, pours and drinks lighter than that. Not a bitter but has some aspects of that style. "Pub Ale" is a great description, actually. I could definitely down several of these in an evening at a pub.

On tap at the University Library Cafe. Clear amber appearance with a beige head. Mild aroma of toasted malts and husky grains. Similar flavor, mild and fairly clean, but a bit bland. Light hop bitterness and light sweetness with a light body, a crisp feel and a grainy finish.

A murky brown color with a beige head. The aroma contains toffee, vanilla, and some herbal notes. The flavor is smooth and malty with some caramel and toffee flavors. Overall good session ale

Cranberry and malty aroma. Tastes like a lighter ESB. Surprised at the brown ale categorization here at RB. Not surprised Tallgrass used some English malts and hops here as this is the most English tasting ale I’ve had from America. Nice, decent flavor, easy to drink.

On tap. Served a dark brown color with a decent head that faded quickly to some lacing. Aroma of malt, bit of chocolate and nut. Taste is simiar with malt, bit of chocolate and nut. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Moderate body, smooth and the character is a bit muted. Nice beer that has an English feel to it.
