COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a Belgian Tripel that lives up to its name. Smooth and carefully crafted like a fine velvet painting, but with an 8.5% ABV this bird has some spurs! The beer pours a golden straw color with brilliant clarity. Topped with a lofty pure white head the beer has a wonderful floral nose, with subtle fruit notes. The taste is clean and crisp, with subtle fruit notes and a touch of candy like sweetness. The beer has a Champagne-like effervescent that provides a crisp offset to its sweet finish. While a pint glass is always nice, Velvet Rooster would also be at home in a tulip glass or Champagne flute. Something to crow about.

Foamy head, disintegrated and left a soapy residue which was appealing. I liked the allspicey, clovey banana flavor of the rooster; the alcohol presence was sharp and strong. Much much much better on tap than out of the can. It was stiflingly sweet and syrupy in can.

Can to a pint glass. Hazy amber with a frofhy head. Wheat, yeasty. Way too sweet for a tripel. Kind of a tripel, wheat, pilsner combo, but I’m not sure that’s what they were going for (and if they were they didn’t quite pull it off). Not awful, more average, but I’ve heard good things about Tallgrass and this first try didn’t impress me.

Can shared at Clockworks 4K/5K/10K Gathering 2013. Pours a deep brown body with no head or lacing. Aroma is grass, pee and metal. Mouthfeel is hot with notes of oranges, spice and alcohol.

Tallboy served in a Tripel Karmeliet glass. A - Pours golden honey in color with a slight haze. 2 fingers of moundy white head cling the sides of the glass at it slowly dissipates. Cool looking can. S - Wet hay, dusty yeast, hints of grassy hops, clove, lemon, honey, and herbal phenols. T - Herbal spearmint and floral hops wrap a dense pale malt. Honey, lemon, and black pepper are very present as well as a spicy grassy hop profile backed by heavy cereal grain. Some dried apricots, bananas, and over-ripe pear bleed through. Finishes peppery and somewhat wet. M - Body is heavier for the style, carbonation provides a soft creamy feel. Finish could be drier. A Tripel in a can! Big time! This is not a perfect Tripel by any means but it’s very interesting and...it’s in a can. Lots of floral and herbal flavors going on. It’s pretty sweet but the herbs and black pepper help even it out. Give it a go! Serving type: can 01-29-2012

I’m not sure (and I’m too lazy to check) but I think this is the first Tripel I’ve had from a can. So it’s got that going for it. Cloudy orange, husge white head. Smell a lot like fresh baked bread. Flavor is sweet but not too sweet, lightly spicy, with some peppery, woody notes as it warms. Pretty enjoyable. Thanks theisti for the trade!

Can at James’s 4k/5k/10k tasting. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. Spicy yeast and a bit of phenols. Medium bodied, soft and sweet, musk and a bit of yeast. Smooth and easy drinking. Nice musky finish.

The aroma of this brew explodes into your nostrils despite its lightness with scents of citrus hops and grapefruit, and the appearance combines a large white head with good retention, a hazy golden color, and lacing down the sides of the glass once sips are taken. The taste is very nice with its fusion of mild sweetness and slight sourness, but the palate rounds everything out due to the slightly bitter finish, thin and slick texture, medium body, and a soft carbonation that still has a slight bite.

The wine drinker’s beer. As the description suggests, it’s quite like Champagne. However, the sweet, subtle finish will take you by surprise. The best part about this beer is the appearance. In fact, I would say the combined efforts of the stylish can and the impressive color may result in this beer looking better than it tastes. Nonetheless, it is worth the buy if you are tired of the malt taste.
