4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Another amazing beer from Tallgrass. I want to meet the guy who mastered this chemistry of taste and intoxication. When to to the liquor store and see the tallgrass mix pack has the rooster as its featured beer, I will always pick it up. I am usually a bitter fan but the citrus. assault combined with the unapologetic high alcohol yeast in the Rooster is just enough to leave you in a wonderful state of waiting for the next Velvet Rooster.

Can. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a fair head and bits of lacing. Aroma of citrus, floral with a bit of fruit. Taste is of a mild fruit sweetness, citrus and touch of spice. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Moderate body, crisp with a slight fruity sweetness. Nice beer.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
16 oz. can. Pleasant, meaty aroma features scents of caramel, peach, candy sugar, and orange. The smell is definitely that of an American imitation of a Belgian ale not a true Belgian ale. Initially pours a clear, bright gold with effervescent liquid. Later pours a cloudy light brass / light tan with a small to moderate amount of beige head. Dry and spicy atop a fundamentally quite sweet flavor. Also herbal and vegetal. Flavor elements include candy, black pepper, lemon zest, pear, and peach. Alcohol taste noticeable. Simple flavors. Lively in the palate. Medium to full body. Fine but forgettable palate effects. Overall, Tallgrass Velvet Rooster is not a very good beer, and I am disappointed in it. It tastes like a brew from some subpar local brewery new to the market, not the output of a respect regional craft brewer. It’s not actively bad, but there is little to recommend it.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This was pretty much a very solid trippel, not anything overly great but a good tripel, loads of fruit esters and some sweetness while maintaining a slightly light body with the alcohol being well hidden

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Slightly hazy golden color with a decent white head that doesn’t stay around long but does leave a bit of lacing. The aroma is light malt, biscuits, yeast, hints of apple and cloves. The taste is similar, yeast, biscuits, slight fruitiness with a spicy , somewhat floral finish. A little different than a Belgian Tripel, but that’s not necessarily bad. Medium bodied, very smooth and easily drinkable, alcohol content is barely noticeable. Altogether it is enjoyable and worth a try, probably the best tripel from Kansas, at least.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On-tap pours a mostly clear amber color with a fluffy beige head. The aroma is mild with yeasty banana. The taste is light and smooth, no big bold yeast and carbonation here. Smooth and delicious like everything from Tall Grass.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A hazy dark yellow beer with a small white head. The aroma is citrusy and fruity, with some yeast. The flavor is floral with a strong graininess. Not bad, but sort of uneventful.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sampled at the W&C Beer Fest 2014. It poured a clear golden color with a white head. The aroma was of malts, spices, sugar with a medium body and average carbonation. The taste was of candied sugar, light berry fruits with spices, yeast and malts. Nice.

[Can] Pours a bright golden color with a fizzy white head on top. Nose is of floral notes, sweet fruits, candi sugar and light lemon. Fruity taste mixes with clove, residual sugars, astringent grains and fusel alcohols. Flavor profile is on the rough side. Tasting notes from 2012.
