Bottle. Large barrel nose, fumes, vanilla. Deep bright dark straw color. Big sweet fruity initial, sweat, alcohol is apparent / complex mid palate, with alc-infused peaches and pears / sweet, vanilla, fruit compote finish. Thich and heavy body. Pretty hot, full of fruit, and a bit too alcoholic.

Whiskey, cognac aromas. Malty whiskey dominates flavors, plum and caramel, some hoppiness in the back, oak, spicy finish with a bit of alcohol burn. Quite an interesting brew, like an aged IPA turned into barley wine.

Draft - big barrel notes of oak and some whiskey sweetness. Hazy yellow with a thin white head. Again barrel notes and whiskey sweetness. A great scotch ale but as an IPA absolutely horrible. No hop nose, bitterness or flavor.

Tamarind, orange, and sweet malts. Slightly cloudy red tinged amber with a bubbly white head. Strong whiskey with a bit of marmalade. Medium bodied but a very strong alcohol burn.

Listed at 13% now... Draft at Bungalow’s 1st Anniversary Shiga Kogen Tap Takeover event. A nice orange gold color. Shared by Yamaoka-San. A boozy malty aroma, the body is smooth but you definitely taste the alcohol with a predominant whiskey flavor, I felt it was similar to Jack Daniel’s. Quite nice but I think I prefer it in small doses. And as the taste indicated it has been aged in whiskey barrels according to Yamaoka-San...

Caramel and crystal malts dominate the nose, with just some faint fruitiness. The mouth is big malty and sticky. Alcohol well hidden not sweet and moderately hoppy. Big resins hoppy finish. Drinks amazing for 11%, but not my exact cup of tea as I don’t think 11% ipAs work in general. Still good stuff Grapefruit and weed become more apparent as things warm up. This is my rating for the original Far East, which I had side by side with the whisky version. Barrel aged is so much fuckin better. Ton of Japanese whiskey on top of sweet malty mouth that really melds well and add another layer of depth. Top notch.

Aroma: light cognac and whiskey, apricot
Flavor: apricot, whiskey barrel, tropical fruit, caramel and smoke. Finishes with whiskey notes and a slight alcohol burn.

My Bottom Line:
Powerful wood and whisky tower above honeyed malts and leafy hops, while alcohol heat establishes a balancing act in the compelling finish.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the misty pale amber.
-Hops and wood combine for a green touch.
-This is surprisingly not cloying considering the plumpness of the body.
-It may not be super complex, but it remains a delicious sipper.
-This is rich from aroma to finish. Japan’s most intense brew?
