3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
One of the best beers I’ve had in Japan. Certainly worth giving a go if you into funky beers. I’ll definitely be stocking up on these.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown body, tan head adorns the glass. Highly carbed, no shortage of yeast yet lacks the funky depth I expect from BA saisons. Minimal oak. Bitter, boozy finish. Decent.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at RBJG2. Hazy dark brown color, tan head. Aroma of softly sour dark fruit. Taste is sour plums, red wine, roasted cocoa. Tasty. Is it a saison? Or a flemish sour?

Bottle at Tim’s RPJG#2. Smells of cork. Pours a clear dark brown with a small beige head. Sweet and dry with a mellow tartness. Lots of woody aromas. Hints of funghi and of red wine. Medium bodied. Lively carbonation.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
RBJG2. Aroma is cheesy and fruity, but combined in a good way. Taste is slightly cheesy again. I always like these Yamabushi saisons.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle from Tanakaya, 01/20/2013. 2010 vintage. Pours dark brown, near black, dense fine-bubbled light tan head, nice lacing as it dies down to the cover the surface. Aroma is lightly tart green apples and white fruit, becoming more vinous with dark chocolate highlights, hint of underlying roast character, funky finish, wood. Taste is smooth dark roasted malts, touch of cocoa powder, yet very fruity, apple and citrus, subtle tartness and sour, dry yeast finish. Medium palate, lively carbonation. A previous bottle from over a year ago showed more souring, but strangely this was less so-very nice, balanced and restrained. This and its non-barrel-aged brother are probably among the best Japanese beers I’ve tried so far.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. 2010 vintage. Oxidized fruitiness, raisins, bitter plums. Dark, near black, 1-2 cm. dark tan head. Flavors also oxidized: cherries, plums; mid palate has some Bretty notes with more dark fruit; final is dryish. Thin-medium body. Okay, but was better before. The oxidation gets in the way.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
dark brown color, light brown head. Sour lactic nose with decent woody character. Excellent roasted character, chocolate milk - i had more notes, but they some how got cut off on iPhone. Anyways, I liked this beer, but not as enthralled as others. Still decent.
