Quake1028 (628), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 8, 2008 Cask. I thought this beer had eluded me, so this was a sight for very sore eyes today. Beautiful cask pour, very dark brown, layers of creamy tan head that never went anywhere and left very good lacing. Nose of smoked meats, sweet nuttiness, dark malts and some nice charred notes. Everything plays a part and it’s all integrated perfectly. Flavor profile is very similar, smoke is a big player here but is complimented by everything else going on, a sweet component from the nuts and malts and light chocolate. Medium bodied, the cask I’m sure does wonders for this, very creamy and substantial. Finish is medium length, smoky and charred, with a ever present backing sweetness. Awesome beer, maybe their second best behind the Baltic Porter. TheCheeseMan (514), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Jan 19, 2008 Draft at TBBC. Poured a rich, roasted, Chestnut brown. Aroma is smokie goodness, countered by a nich rich maltiness that seems to bring harmony to this. The flavor is so well balanced I am taken aback. I expected this to be a smoke bomb, but once again the malts come into play perfectly, finishing with a light roast coffee component, balancing everything out so very well. Alcohol is completely hidden. Very nce... mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 12, 2008 [938-20071206] Tap @ Tampa Bay Brewpub (Tampa, FL). Roasted smoky campfire aroma. Dark red brown body with a quick foamy light tan head. More smoky bits of bitter cigarette in the flavour with a hint of hops. Medium-full body has a bitter finish. Hidden alcohol. redlight (1055), Winter Park, Florida, USA Dec 18, 2007 draft @ brewery. Good smokey aroma, but not over powering. Pours brown with thick white head. Great smokey flavors, with good malt and hop presence, a good smoke beer if you’re not familiar with smoke beers. And it went great with my burger with smoked gouda on it! boboski (1095), USA Dec 12, 2007 Draft at TBBC. Pours a sifted soil dark brown with a wispy tan head that dissipates fully and nearly instantaneously. The aroma is at first all smoke, but is followed by hearty roasted malt and soft grain, with hints of sweetness and fruit. the flavor is great, well-rounded and fairly complex. Sweetness is medium and offsets smoky mild bitterness nicely. The finish is smoky and lightly bitter, a soft sweet fading quickly away. The body is medium to medium-full, gracious and lightly sticky. This is one of the most interesting and drinkable beers this consistently enjoyable brewpub has created. Alcohol is not detectable, nor are any flaws. Delicious.
