im not sure which scotch ale i had as i didnt see the sign, but if this was it, it was pretty damn impressive. a tangy tart of mild hops balances nicely with the nutty caramel like malts. the whole thing finishes with a somewhat astringent clean palate. very nicely done. i think scotch ales are becoming my new favorite style.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JAN 4, 2010
Draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear, dark, reddish-amber hue with a small, foamy, ivory colored head head. Scant, wet spots of lace dot the glass. The aroma is of burnt caramel, bronzed candy, raisins, and a hint of toffee, with very little balancing hop character. It smells overly sweet and boozy, lacking depth. Like the nose, flavors are a disappointing, showing mostly burnt sugars and caramel, hints of dark fruit, and little else. Sugary on the tongue, with some mild alcohol burn and low to moderate carbonation, the palate is also a letdown. Average scotch ale at best.
