Ibrew2or3 (1613), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 8, 2008 Listed as 6.6% ABV on the chalk board. Pours up rusty red with off white head and moderate lacing. It has a mild aroma of sweet and roasty malts and not much else. The taste is much the same with roasty malts to start that are mildly dry with faint astringency. It then moves toward sweet malts and sweet dark fruity esters. Into the finish it gets a bit toasty and toffee like. Nice offering that could use a bolder nose and a little more depth in the flavor.
Quake1028 (625), Tampa, Florida, USA May 22, 2008 Draught at the source. Pours a golden copper/orange combo, topped by a stout, 2 finger thick off white head. Incredible retention
and some very nice coat lacing make this one a winner in the looks department. On the nose we have citrus
fruits - grapefruit, orange, some lemon zest - pine, caramel malts, some floral/perfume aromas. Smells good
but lacks that little extra bit of aroma concentration and heft to make it elite in this regard. Flavor is
very good as well, bringing over all of the promises from the aroma, and adding a good bit of bitterness
to the fold as well. Again, could stand to be a little more concentrated, but it’s a good effort. The only
place where I can really ding this one any is in the mouthfeel. Seemed thin for the style, but it did
retain the oily/slick mouthfeel that this style so often entails. Finish is long, bitter and then juicy fruits.
Not their best, but a pretty good beer. fishingnet (737), Brandon, Florida, USA May 4, 2008 Tap. Pours a clear amber with a one finger lasting off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of caramel, sweet malt, and slighlty earthy. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild to moderate amount of bitterness. Good. MilkmanDan (1936), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Dec 1, 2003 Cask. Very red. Nose is strong, sweet, and a bit scotchy. Woody nose as well. Taste starts sweetly powdery and malty. Fruitiness is spicy and peppery like a mango. Flavor gets dry a bit quickly, then gets somewhat harsh with the ending hoppiness. Might have improved if it hadn't been cask. joet (1621), Fulton, California, USA Oct 29, 2003 strong but not intensely malty, I thought this was attempting to be an english strong but it's more like an ipa, still this musters a good rating. the company a factor? yes.
