3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draught at Freakin’ Frog in Las Vegas. This beer is a clear amber-gold color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and roast malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of citrusy hops, malt and pine. The finish is hoppy with a grapefruit aftertaste. Decent overall.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Original Spike’s in SLO. Pours a clear deeper amber with a medium, off white head. Nice, decent lacing. Nose is quite nice: fresh orange, citrus hops, flowers, caramel. Taste is quite aggressively nutty bitter, thick brazil nut and walnut skin, decent caramel background. Much better than expected. Fairly quenching, clean, no off flavors. No soap or diacetyl thankfully.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle, pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of piney hops, not a whole lot else – big pine and a thin malt backing. Flavour is identical, with monolithic piney hop notes, some juiciness, and a bready caramel malt backing. Nice pine-dominated IPA, but nothing overly special.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, from day 9 of the Beer Advent Calendar 2013. Bright orange amber with a thick pillowy light golden head. Terrific bouquet of Pacific Northwest hoppy goodness, very vibrant. Juicy citrus hop flavours open the palate, some perfumey pine, but mostly tangerine and grapefruit. The malts are equally lovely, a little doughy, a little toasty. It all finishes with a lengthy bitterness. What a terrific surprise!
