3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 womencantsail (3572) - Home of Rebecca Black, California, USA - SEP 10, 2010
A: The pour is a dark brown color with ruby red highlights when held up to the light. A finger’s worth of off-white head.
S: The nose is on the sweet side with chocolate, oatmeal, and caramel malts. A bit of roast and coffee to go along with it.
T: A pretty decent flavor, but not overly impressive. Chocolate, mild coffee, mild roast, and a hint of bitterness. Like most of the other beers Taps has, very sweet.
M: The body is medium with a smooth carbonation. Not quite as silky as oatmeal beers tend to be.
D: This is a good beer, but it’s not mind blowing. I wish it was a little more interesting and had more intense flavors.

On tap at the brewpub. I rated this as a brown ale, because it fits better as a brown ale in my mind than a stout. Pours a really light colored brown for a stout (about 18 SRM!), with a small tan head. Aroma is oats, grainy, woodsy, earthy, brown sugar and very light roast. Taste is a typical brown ale (not stout), brown sugar, grainy, earthy, caramel, and VERY light roast. Medium to high carbonation.

Sampled on tap at Taps on 7/10/2010 from a 2 oz sampler. This oatmeal stout pours a dark amber color from the tap. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, roasty malt and a touch of vanilla. A medium to light bodied Oatmeal Stout. The malts are chocolate and nutty. The hops are herbal and earthy. Nice balance. There is just a hint of chocolate throughout the beer, kind of a nice effect. I was kind of expecting an oatmeal stout to be a little thicker bodied. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

On tap at TAPS fish house and brewery. Comes out ice cold...pours a deep black with a thin head. Nose is strong of soy sauce, licorice, malts, oats, and sewer. Taste is soy sauce, roasted malt, oatmeal. Mouth is very dry and thin...not bad, not great...however, I won’t be ordering this again.

Tap at the Corona location. Deep dark mahogony, almost black with a tan head. Very mild aroma, clean and roasty. Very smooth, creamy mouthfeel, light roastiness, very drinkable. Good stuff.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 alexanderj (2830) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - SEP 21, 2008
ON cask at Taps; I am surprised all these beers don’t have more ratings. Color was pretty nice; a darkish, red tinted brown. Aroma of caramel, oats, vanilla, lactic sweetness, wood and cocoa. Flavor had a good amount of sweetness, oats, caramel, cocoa and vanilla. Not too strong of roasted presnce. Good for the style.
