chainman (103), Ontario, Canada Aug 6, 2007 On tap @ the brewery - Besides being nice guys, the fellows at Taps make a great premium lager. Sampled on a visit to Virgil, and I was very impressed! Nice amber colour with a thick, creamy head. Malts create a substantial presence in the mouth, and the dry-tasting hops give this a lot more character than most lagers I’ve come across. Tastes more like an ale than a lager, but the mellowness is there. Picked up a 6-pack for the family to try, and it was gone quickly! Would definitely get this one again. gj40333 (3), Virgil, Ontario, Canada does not count Oct 11, 2005 Rich in flavour very nice colour. Different then other lagers quite hoppy.
Enjoyed more then one, and will be back for more.
Tasted at Buggy’s Pour House in St Catharines Ontario. pootzboy (1037), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada May 7, 2006 Updated: Oct 12, 2006I’m not sure how well this one conforms to the Dortmunder style, it has the pungent Breiss Munich amber malts but the cascade hops instead of nobles adds a nice touch outside the pure Dortmunder style regimen. A good looking lager.....light amber in the glass, nice 2 finger frothy cap that laces up the glass sides. Aroma is bready, spicey with a light whiff of "sour" from the lager yeast. Body is medium, mouthfeel clean sharp with a decent malt spine. You taste the substantial Briess malts instantly as a sweet doughy bearing then the cascades balance it off well with a sharp grapefruit "bite"...finishes clean with light bittering and a biscuity after taste. A simple but well put together lager that satisfies and refreshes....just the ticket for sessions. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jul 7, 2006 Dark golden lager with a nice thin white hed. Fresh grains of barley with light german hops. Nice fresh malty taste with a light citrusy hops, very nice and quaffable, especially next to a pool. A good summer beer. LCBO, 6 pack, 11.95$. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 9, 2005 Draft. Golden amber with a thin white head. Sweet aroma of malty caramel. Flavour is quite sweet and toffee like with a decent bit of hoppy bitterness in the finish bringing a fleeting glimpse of citrus (grapefruit) to the back of the tongue. Average palate. Kind of an odd beer to be honest but not unpleasant. I will likely give it another go round sometime. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 5, 2005 Sampled at The Winking Judge Spring Fest 05. This was much better than the Charleston. Light yellow lager appearance with a decent sized white head. Light crisp mouthfeel, slightly hoppy, and very fresh tasting. A little bit of unnecessary sweetness crept in as it warmed, but otherwise, a very decent beer. Good luck Taps. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jul 31, 2006 Bottle. Limpid golden body with average carbonation and a fair white bubbly head. Nice hoppy (Golding or Cascade)aroma with grainy and fruity notes. Its taste is well balanced and ends with a sharp bitter finish. Good introduction to micro beers. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 1, 2005 Draught. At October 2005 Winking Judge BeerFest, Hamilton. Poured oily deep clear amber-gold with a minimal white head. Aroma of clean fresh hops, mild malt, some honeyish grain and a touch of citrus zest. Flavour of mild citrusy hops, fresh mild malt, a bit of pine resin and floral character - nice, if thin and a little too sweet. Average, slightly lively palate, not offensive in any way. Overall mild, drinkable, a touch sweet, but a pretty solid pale lager without the usual nastiness of the type.
