UPDATED: SEP 11, 2013 Itís been a few weeks since I had this beer, so I donít remember the exact details, but suffice to say that it tasted so bad, that I couldnít finish it. Granted I didnít have any Dunkler Bock beers in the past, so I donít have much to compare against, but I do love Dopple Bock beers and many of the attributes are supposed to be similar so I donít think itís the style thatís wrong. Just this specific beer.

Bottle. Pours opaque deep brown with a small head. Aroma starts unpleasantly with rubber and plastic though almost disappeared after several minutes, and faint smell of roasted malt comes out. Taste - light sweetness, caramel, roasted malts, dark chocolate. Light-medium body, smooth on the palate.

Bottle pour at the Great Japan Beer Festival in Osaka (7/13/2013). Bad skunked-out pissy nose. Light brown tea color. Minimal chocolate, which does hide the foul off flavors a bit. Maybe the same bad yeast in all their beers, or something wrong with their other ingredients?

KansaiBeerLvrs (2336) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUL 15, 2013
Bottle at the GJBF Osaka. More of an amber than a dark color, though maybe a smidge darker than their amber. The flavor has the same kind of skunkiness to it as the amber I had though not as strong. I think they are using some smoke malts. It is quite bitter, not so well done. Their golden is their best but even that is average.

Good beer. Malty brown. Somewhat dry and a fairly strong roast notes. Note a bad beer.

33cl bottle thanks to Nustu. Pours dark with a reddish hue and a decent head. The nose has a sour taste again, hard cherries, Lewis says. The taste is quite sour again and it seems like itís off.

Fell in love with this dark beer years ago: aromatic, flavoured, creamy; smooth, tasty caramel

Bottle - much thanks to KerenMK for the new country tick! Pours clear dark brown to black with a ruby tint, medium off-white head that slowly disspates with nice lacing. Aroma is malty with notes of roasted malt, caramel, grass, and perhaps a bit of metal. Flavor is the same, initially smoky and a bit salty, although the smokyness fades with time. Medium sweet with a light grassy/metallic bitterness. Medium body. Interesting and certainly drinkable.

Creamy tan head over clear deep ruby body. Aroma or dark fruit and raisin-wine. Taste if roast at first, then very tart. The aroma doesnít carry well into the taste, and the palate is just tart.
