   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 5/5   OVERALL 16/20
Wombata (615) - Kobe, JAPAN - FEB 20, 2016
From bottle bought at Yamaya near Umeda. 30% off as it must have been near it’s sell by date. Aroma: Light grass, dark cocoa perfume, black licorice, some char. Palate: Medium-bodied but with enough behind it that it never fades. It has a sustained feeling of volume in the mouth. Flavor: Black licorice, unsweetened dark cocoa, light grassy hop that grows into a bigger, bitter charred coffee flavor. Comment: Amazingly long finish and feeling of volume in the mouth that never seems to thin out. I first tried this in a narrow tall glass and the sharper burnt character was emphasised, but then poured it into a tulip glass that brought out the aroma and toned down the bitter burned character and highlighted a rounder chocolate and licorice flavors. Stunningly good and have to wonder if this was just an unusually good bottle that had a little age on it.

maekchu (3304) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JUN 10, 2015
Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake Taniguchi). Roast malt nose, toasty and nutty, , dark fruit, some yeastiness. Dark reddish-brown color. Decent raost malt initial, lightly harsh bittering, some smoke, burnt notes, a bit ashy, thin yeast bite in finish. Thin-medium body. Nice enough. Bitterness (or perhaps yeast) is a bit overdone,

On tap at CBM awajicho. Dark brown with a modest beige head that lasts. Toffee and toasted malts on the now. Average carbonation. Cola like mouthfeel. As it warms up a bit of prune comes out on the nose as well. Not bad at all.
