A true TBK original, we kick this German-style black lager up a couple notches. Big clean malty flavor with just a hint of roasted malt. "May the Schwartz be with you!"

Killer swartzbier. Chocolaty flavors which lingers on the palate forever. Love this beer.

Bottle courtesy of GandGKevin. Thanks Kevin! Nearly black, opaque, dark brown pour with a short, sticky brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, grape juice notes, toasted grains and dark bread. Taste is roasted malt, toasted grains, dark bread, light coffee, and chocolate notes. Body is medium with a dense bubbly carbonation. Ends with more roasted malt, grains, light coffee notes, burnt caramel and dark bread.

Froma bottle, quite aromatic. Big abnd dark. I had high hopes for this becasue the label said black lager. Is everything imperial these days? Big strong in yer face alky, not sure how this is a lager. By taste? NEVER. Think imerial stout or imperial porter on this, perhaps even foreign stout, yes, the last time I tasted something like this it was lion stout. wew. strong. Session is kick you in the teeth. Finish is kick you in the head.

Bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown color with a very small head that fizzes away quickly. Aroma is fruity, not what I was expecting from a schwarzbier. Kinda smells like fruit cake, licorice, and grape juice. Taste is very sweet and no bitterness. Lots of grape juice and fruit cake. Finish is a little tart. Thin mouthfeel. I don’t like this beer at all. And I don’t know what style I would put this in but its not even close to a schwarzbier.

22oz bomber bottle consumed in April 2010. Dark red/brown but not quite schwarz. Malt is more bready than roasty in the aroma. Almost like black rye bread. On the palate there’s chewy fruit and licorice. Also lots of creamy chocolate. Rather sweet for my taste.

12oz bottle from Belmont Party Supply, Dayton. Dark brown pour but resembles a soda more than a beer, a bit too light and watery looking for the style (imperialized or not). Decently carbonated, medium silky head. Nose is heavy on the mellow chocolate notes with only a slight toasted note in there. That impression was certainly borne out in the taste, and though it wasn’t unenjoyable if approached as an aged, borderline oxidized brew, it also wasn’t what I was hoping for.

Not a bad dark lager. I was expecting more with the word Imperial on the label. A light roasted malty character in both the aroma and flavor. A darkish pour and thin mouthfeel. Better than a plain lager. But not nearly as great as a porter or stout in my book. Not really sensing the reported 9% alcohol.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Notes of roasted malts, fruity, caramel, slight oxidization, chocolate. The Schwartz is strong with this one. That is right, I picked the low hanging fruit.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, thanks Amy! Dark black oour with thin to no tan head, aroma has notes of chocolate, biscuit, smoke, slight bread, toffee, slight roast, with a hint of coffee. Taste is dark fruit, chocolate, biscuit, toffee, metallic notes, hints of roast, finishing fairly sweet, dark fruits. Pretty nice.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours clear extremely dark brown color with a foamy 1-2 finger khaki head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some light spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of caramel, toffee, banana, clove, bubblegum, raisin, nuttiness, roasted malt, biscuit, and pepper. Some pretty nice and well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of chocolate, caramel, molasses, roasted malt, raisin, clove, bread, banana, nuttiness, and pepper. Lingering notes of pepper, clove, chocolate, roasted malt, banana, raisin, caramel, and molasses on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance of flavors with good complexity. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden at 9% with only a small warming after the finish. Overall this was a very nice schwarzbier. Nice balance of fruitiness and roasted flavors; with good complexity and smoothness.
