3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ContemplateBeer (1140) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAR 26, 2013
Aroma of about 60/40 coffee to milk chocolate ratio, moderate roast and light blueberry. Appearance is oily black with sticky mocha head. Flavor has a roast, almost smokey character up front; the coffee is present but not dominant; there is some sweetness suggested, but never realized; the finish is dry and somewhat resiny. Personally, I miss the fruit presence suggested in the nose. Palate is medium, oily and soft. A very good porter.

Color is nice. Almost no head. Very chocolatey aroma. Smooth and surprisingly light on the tongue. It’s got all the flavors you want in a porter. Bitter coffee, loads of chocolate, light smoke, some oak and vanilla.
The first couple sips didn’t do a lot for me, but now that it’s warmer, all the flavors are coming out more. Definitely give this some time to come up to temp. It’ll make a difference.
This is very good, but it’s a step below the elite porters I’ve had. But I couldn’t tell you what’s missing. Certainly not a disappointment.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rondphoto (983) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - FEB 11, 2013
Opaque brown/black with a short head that quickly becomes a ring, light swirls of lace. The taste is complex - the usual roasted malt with hints of chocolate are overcome midway through the palate by a touch of smoke. Mild bittering closes things out and cleans the palate nicely. An interesting, albeit heavy brew.

Drank from the bottle. Aroma is chocolate with a touch of vanilla bean. The taste is roasty malt and chocolate with a slight coffee undertone. Not bad at all, pretty good porter.

Draft to taster. Looks good; like cola with sticky beige lacing. Smells solid; malt and coffee. Tastes like it smells with some black pepper notes. Nice on the palate too. Good beer.

Bottle from bittermestupid. Thanks Greg! Pours dark reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma has lots of chocolate and smooth dark malt. Med minus body. Flavor is smooth dark malt, coffee and some dark chocolate. Flavor seems to be quite different from the aroma. It’s not exactly dry, but there’s enough chocolate and burnt malt to make up for that. Drinks really well.

Pours black, ruby backlights with a short tan head.
Scent is minimal....faint coffee.
Taste is a nice, bitter coffee....some chocolate, creamy malt.
Nothing fancy, just a decent, solid, porter.
Tasty.
