Bottle... Lightly hazed brown ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. Earthy, piney, cat piss aroma. Full-bodied and mildly oily with moderate carbonation. The flavor consists of European medium-roast malts and is very thoughtfully bittered. Finishes bittersweet, earthy and fairly dry. Bottle courtesy of jtclockwork!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BMan1113VR (7377) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAR 14, 2011
Bottle via a trade. Rating is from a practice BJCP Scoresheet. Scored as a 14B. The numbers in this rating reflect ratebeer’s hedonistic scale and not my judging numbers.
Aroma: Initial impressions are pine sap, molasses, rotten orange and caramel. Light notes of tropical fruit and tangerine. Some fruity esters. Malt aroma is a bit too prominent and ranges from a nutty astringent note to a sticky sweet syrupy caramel. Too sweet. Hops are a bit faded or otherwise overshadowed.
Appearance: Deep bronze hue with a persistent off-white head. Hazy appearance. More than a few shades too dark for the style. Less caramel (or other dark malts) would be to style.
Flavor: Bitter, tangerine and citrus notes from the hops. Hops appear a bit faded. Rotten oranges. Very malt forward at this point. Hop flavors are low or have faded. Light esters. Lingering bitterness and an astringency in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Some astringency from the grain that is a bit harsh. Lingering bitterness. Not quite dry enough (unfermentables are a bit too prevalent). Carbonation is medium to high and supports the body well.
Overall impressions: I feel that this beer is not quite as fresh as I could hope, but I still see problems that would appear in a fresh sample. The beer is too sweet, and is too malt forward for the style. Cutting back on the caramel malts would yield a better beer stylistically and address the problems of sweetness, color and body. The hop aromas and flavors are not as strong as I would like, but the bitterness is spot on.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 womencantsail (6859) - Garbage Grove, California, USA - FEB 16, 2011
A: This one lives up to its name. A dark red-amber pour with a khaki head to go with it.
S: The piney hops are immediately noticeable and there’s a bit of a grassy hop note too. Some decent citrus notes and quite a bit of malt. The usual toffee and bread notes are there and maybe a bit of chocolate.
T: Toffee and bread malts to begin with and then the semi-bitter dark chocolate follows. Lots of pine and citrus hops as well as a bit of an earthy note. Decently bitter, but not overly so.
M: The body and carbonation are both medium. This beer is pretty smooth on the tongue.
D: This didn’t really blow me away, but it’s a pretty solid beer.

Bomber from Whole Foods Market Dublin. Pours a clear dark copper color with a medium frothy light brown head. Good head retention and decent lacing. Aroma of fruity, floral and citrus hops with some caramel malts. The taste is fruity, floral and resin hop notes, some tea and stone fruits and a maltiness in the background. Medium bodied.
