A good mexican beer that doesn’t get the limelite but tastes far better than that S*#t with the lime in the clear bottle.

Smells of cheap pale lager. Has a really strong corn like flavor. It’s alright when really cold but not too good.

Clear golden beer with a disappearing head. Sweet malty in aroma and flavor with some bitterness in the end of the flavor. Not very interesting but all right for a lager.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2008 Bottle and can. The secret to Tecate (or basically any Mexican beer) is to only buy it in Mexico - much better in Mexico - I don’t know what the importer do - most likely they keep it in hot warehouses for months at a time In Mexico (which is what my rating is based on), it has a decent malt aroma with smooth flavor and not much bitterness - really not much different than US macros. In the states, sour malt aroma (not nearly as skunky as Corona though). Light malt flavor with high carbonation. The increased availability of Mexican beers has really helped the quality, for what its worth. Add the lime to hide that this is just a typical cheap pale lager.

I drank a few of these as a kid and remembered thinking it was disgusting. Tried it again recently and it is a below average pale lager, but not worthy of the abuse it gets here. Yeah, it’s pale yellow (like a pale lager, go figure...) and watery, but judged as a pale lager, it’s not at all dismal. I’ll drink it if it’s handed to me for sure.

Very light, almost watery beer, I didn’t enjoy this at all, had it in a can. Not a good beer.

As I’m sipping this at a fiesta of sorts being held by my parents, a hunched over mumbling chariciture of Hunter S. Thompson leans into me, muttering something about his days spent wasted and drugged in the Mexican sun, the old hippy then proceeded to shave off a thin slice of lime and insisted that I place it in the neck of my bottle, not wanting to anger the elderly space cadet, and knowing that no piece of fruit was capable of ruining this tasteless Mexican schwill, I relented, and I will say that the green wedge added a new dimension to this otherwise tasteless brew.
