Ethereal (2410) - Los Angeles, California, USA - SEP 22, 2008
On tap at EBF 2008, Copenhagen. "Dust & must" aroma. Good dark amber looks - very clear. Very lively at first (the first glass the barman poured was nothing but foam!) but then settles down. Has the expected smoked beer flavour (it has 40% Bamberg rauch malt after all!) but not as good as the authentic stuff from Schlenkerla I’m afraid.

Small white head quickly disappears. Amber body. Smoky apple and caramel aroma. Dry-sweet fruity smoky apple taste with caramelly charcoal notes. Mild, balanced, harmonic. Dry dusty grainy smoky aftertaste. Body is thin and delicate. Very nice! (0.1l taster draft at EBF ’08.)

Archibaldo de la Cruz (1122) - FINLAND - SEP 19, 2008
Draught at Teerenpeli, Lahti. Clear amber colour with a small head. Smoked malt aroma. The flavour is also smoky and malty with some sweetness. Light to medium bodied, not much aftertaste. The beer was not bad, a bit thin but drinkable.

liinis (1496) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 8, 2008
this was draught at Teerenpeli Kaisaniemi Helsinki when it still was there. Some strange thing about the smokyness like it came from the grease of a smoked ham (mildly). I happen to like smoked ham...

Gently smoked aroma.I’ve had this in the past, and it was more lagery, but this time is was much more of a bock base, having far more body than before. The dominating flavour is the smokyness, but it isn’t overpowering. (7-4-7-3-13=3.4)
Rerate - new formula, allegedly more smoked, 2009-01. (6-4-5-3-10=2.9)
Muted phenolic smoky aroma. light body, quite lagery. Gutless smoke and nothing else to back it up. In the context of a salami toastie, this just withers. What have they done to this beer!?!? Please bring back the old one.
2010-01 - seems like they’re back to the better formula again.

Draught at the brewpub, Vuorikatu/Helsinki
Amber color. The aroma is too light. The flavor shows more clearly the smoked malt, not invasive, with some dry malt flavor and the necessary bitterness. Dry as many beers from the brewery, but pleasant and flawless.
