joss (3081), Garching b. München, Germany Apr 27, 2008 Bottle, danke Günther! Chestnut, creamy golden head. Toasty, nutty, some sweet dates, all to a lesser degree in the aroma. Dry herbal and roasted finish. Plenty of chewyness, medium to light sparkly body. A bit sugary sticky sweetness follows you to the door.
Quack-Duck (1631), Bodensee, Germany Jun 15, 2008 bottle, traded with pivnizub. Deep dark brwon colour, medium-sized head. Malty nose. Intensive flavours of roasetd malt, hints of caramel and malt, a shy touch of berries and dried fruit. Not too sweet, well-balanced. harrisoni (4915), Ashford, Kent, England Jun 6, 2008 500ml bottle at Reading BF 08. Very deep brown red with thin beige head. Aroma of some red fruits/raisins. Fruit and malt is a little syrupy. Bit sweetish as a doppelbock and not a lot of depth. Not one of the better doppelbocks I’ve had. It’s alright, but no great character. MoritzF (3648), Ruhrpott, Germany Feb 11, 2008 (bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a fluffy beige foamy head, leaving lace-work. Sweet toast-malty and caramelly, melanodinic aroma with herbal, slightly grassy hops and a faint touch of metal. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Balanced sweet and moderately toasted malt character with caramel in combination with a good dash of herbal hops. Lasting sweet-bitter finish. The alcohol is also well integrated. Sweet but not sticky Doppelbock (01.02.08). pivnizub (3638), Porúří, Germany Feb 3, 2008 Bottle: Clear, deep amber coloured with copper sparks, small, but quite stable off-white head, lazy carbonation, quite shy sweet-caramelly nose with traces of coffee, roasted malt and barnyard; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied; moderate, relatively dry roast-malty finish with an increasing bitterness in the aftertaste. Quite "slim" Doppelbock, but very well balanced and pleasant...........
