Telegraph California Ale is our flagship beer and is our interpretation of the unique ales that were commonly brewed up and down the West Coast in the 19th century. It is an unfiltered, medium-bodied beer, with a rich amber color and a rocky, white head. The beer is crafted using domestic American ingredients and fermented with a unique yeast strain that accentuates the hoppy spiciness, while also imparting fruity and subtly sour flavors. The aromas are spicy and earthy, reminiscent of the rich agricultural valleys surrounding Santa Barbara.

Bottle. Pours amber with a medium white head. Not much on the nose. A little yeast and fruit. Flavor is yeasty ad slightly spicy, but not much there. Finishes bitter. Just okay.

750ml bottle. Clear orangey golden to amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Nuttily malty aroma with a bready touch, slightly grassy hoppy overtones. Taste is minimally earthy and bready, caramel malty, minimally grassy hoppy overtones, very mild yeasty spiciness. Hardly delivering a connecting factor to become persistently fixed in memory.

Hoppy Belgian Brown Ale? Nice hoppy nose and pleasant Belgian yeast character with a hint of candy sugar.

Pours two fingers of head on a clear straw body. The aroma is grain and caramel. The taste is caramel sweet, lots of it. A little lemon bitter finish. Still, it has a good enough balance. The texture is medium. A nice maltier ale.

750 ml bottle from BOTW (Rochester), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Clear bright amber with a thin off white head. Bright, eucalyptus hops, medicinal in a way, bread crust hops, a bit phenolic, old apple juice, apple seed/peel a bit woodsy, quite odd. Medium+ body, creamy carbonation. Apple, slightly minty and woodsy, lightly phenolic, bread crust, messy; dry with limited bitterness and an equally odd/messy, slightly watery/thin finish. What is this??

Pour on tap at the brewery, slightly hazy dark reddish pour with white head, aroma brought notes of red fruit, caramel, some spice, yeast and steam like notes, hints of grain and toast. Taste was a mix of grain, steam beer, some spice and grain, touch of toast, finishing slightly earthy, dry.

Dark carrot-cake orange; glassy with not a ton of head. One arc of lace at the top. Aroma is seriously earthy, like autumn soil. Slightly thereafter, there is a musty, cellar-like and dry hay component. So far, it is all malt and yeast in the nose. Grains of paradise. There is an herbal hop to it as well. I have to say the complexity grows the more your schnozz hovers over the glass. The flavor is a combination of sugary malts, plus a tinge of flowery yeast funk. The must is palpable, and the aftertaste is pure tartness, like lemon or key lime. Touch of grassy finish. Just this side of cardboard, but not at all unpleasant. Touch of plastic. The feel is very slick, but chunky and chewy innards. A little bready on the back end. If you didnít know better, you might think it was a bit old. Itís a very musty, malty ale, but a good one if youíre into that kind of thing.
