COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The rhinoceros may not be the king of the jungle, but he commands respect nonetheless. Powerful and distinctive, Telegraph Rhinoceros pays homage to one of the world’s most majestic and endangered creatures. Brewed with a hefty dose of rye malt and balanced by a ridiculous amount of hops, our "rye wine" is truly a unique beast. Be careful... this rhino may seem mellow at first, but is known to charge unexpectedly!

Bottle pours deep amber(almost copper) with an off-white head. Aroma shows toffee covered apples, spicy rye, and a definate oak presence. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of caramel, delhi dates, vanilla, and some earthy hops. Overall body is a little thin but it’s extremely palatable.

Tropical aroma of kiwifruit, tangerine, and whole grapefruit. Quite a delicious aroma for an IPA or IIPA, but this is new to me in a barleywine. Call it a west coast barleywine. Cloudy copper, thin yellow head. Medium body, lightly spritzy, rather hot. Flavor is triple sec, whole grapefruit, whole overripe oranges. Finishes with just a bit of orange peel. Drinks more like an IIPA. Tropical hop profile doesn’t comport with how I’ve come to know barleywines, but I’m open to a redefinition. Pretty nice.

Telegraph Rhinoceros Pours coppery with a nice looking white head and decent lacing. Aroma is malty sweet with a hint of fruitiness and a slight metallic tinge. Pleasing slightly sour finish with a sweet, spicy intro. Low hop character with an interesting flavor. I need to try again

Hey the only problem with this beer and bottle is that the cork shot off with violence and broke a light fixture. At least the beer isn’t infected. So there’s that. Formerly corked and caged 750mL bottle pours clear copper with gold edges and tan head. The aroma has spicy hops, mild floral hop note and a decent enough pulse of pine hops too. Behind the hops is a modest level of malt sugary sweetness. The taste is similar with spicy hops, mango, passion fruit too and some floral hops all supported by sweeter notes of sugary malts and sweet apricot juice. Tastes pretty good.

bottle, thanks to wavers1 in trade, orange amber in color with espresso foam, aroma is lots of caramel and brown sugar, flavor of sweet caramel and malts, a little thin for a barleywine

Thanks to IBrew2or3 for the share. Pours amber with a white head. Nose is red grapes, a vinous quality, some malt, some dates, and a bit of caramel. Taste is sweetness and fruit. Hops and citrus, some malt, vinous with a bit of fruit. Medium in body and slightly syrupy. Interesting and a bit different.

A: The pour is a slightly hazed dark amber color with a thick off-white head. S: A distinct white wine aroma is immediately noticeable. Floral and perfumey with some pale malts and brown sugar. There is almost a bit of tartness to the nose with a definite fruitiness. T: The flavor is quite strange. Banana and citrus? Lots of other fruits, including pineapple and pear. There’s a mild to moderate hop character with a definite acidity and tartness (though light). M: Medium in body with a medium to high carbonation. O: Very, very strange. The tartness shouldn’t be there, but I liked it.

Sampled on tap on 6/3/2011 at Bruery Provisions. This Barleywine pours a medium orange gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, malty and sweet. A medium to full bodied Barleywine. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Nice carbonation. Touch of rye spiciness. Fairly smooth taste. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

750 mL bottle purchased at Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma is a little fruity, before this takes on a little funk character in the nose. Brett and maybe a touch of lacto. A little sweetness behind. Not overly pleasant aroma, that is for sure. Mildly hazy amber body with a good khaki colored head. Very sweet, sugary start, before this becomes very spicy with the proverbial rye flavors. Some caramel. Lots of chewiness later on, which gives this a nice body. Finishes a touch ethanolic, but otherwise, this is pretty tasty with a ton of maltiness and rye. Interesting, but the aroma for some reason just seems incongruent with the beer and the flavor.
