2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
750 cc from Smith’s. Pours burnt sienna with 4-finger tan head. Nose is cacao, walnut, vienna malt. Tastes dry, with big vinous fruit notes, some cacao, malt, and astringent hops. Medium palate heft, but not terribly complex or enjoyable, as the flavor elements seemed to clash.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
750mL bottle purchased at BevMo in Natomas, CA. Batch 80. Faint chalky, metallic, roasted aroma without much else happening in the nose. Somewhat transparent mahogany body with a HUGE overly frothy carbonated light tan head. The foam comes out of the bottle even at rest. The start is initially overly carbonated, before this becomes sweet and sugary (priming sugars?). A little roastiness in the middle with some tannins present. Finishes with a bit of a metallic, weird flavor. Not sure what’s up with this beer.

3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from the bottle into a etched pint glass. Colour is dark Brown, with a thin tan head. Aroma is not good, and a little off putting. Once I smelled it, lots of alcohol, I checked the ratings, and that regained my confidence to try it. The flavour is not bad at all, and is complex as advertised. Lots of red wine type flavour in this Porter. Other flavours and aromas that are unidentifiable to me. Overall not a bad Porter.
