COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Staying true to original porter brewing techniques,we blend fresh brewed beer with an oak-barrel aged ale to create our Stock Porter.Dark and complex, yet eminently drinkable, this beer is a tantalizing combination of coffee and chocolate aromas married to delicate fruit notes, revealing hints of the California zinfandel that once filled our barrels.

Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye. Dark rouge pour. Highly carbonated. Dark scents and roasted elements mixed with hints of bacon. Very tingly on the tongue. Dark bitter taste like that of a roasted coffee. Decent porter, that would pair well with bacon.

Bottle from City Beer Store in SF. Dark brown in color with a large beige head. Aroma is almost like a Belgian dubbel with dark fruits and just a hint of portery roastiness. Flavor is Belgian yeast, vinous notes, and a little bit of roast/chocolate. A little weak overall. Clams on the finish. Yes clams. Medium body with a mild astringency on the palate.

750ml bottled on Jun 05 2008: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a large, airy beige head. Aroma of tart black cherries and vinous oak with a touch of roasted malt. Body starts with some effervescent carbonation and a hint of sweetness giving way to lots of tart vinous fruity notes near the finish. A pretty unique wine-barrel aged porter.

Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Bottled 12/22/2008. Pours dark brown with a large, frothy tan head. Smell is dominated by zinosity, but there is underlying roast malt and perhaps chocolate/coffee. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Flavors of dark malt, chocolate and coffee. And in the finish the zin aspect pretty much takes over. Finishes towards astringent; might be oak. Nice stuff.

22. Thanks, Riverside! Dark brown with bright caramel highlights. Loose swirls of gray foam on top. Plenty of webby lace. Watery, lightish body. Huge forward smoke and coffee mid-palate, just out of control. Barrel notes are fairly subdued. Big sour smoky finish. Unpleasant.

From a corked and caged 750 ml bottle this opened with a rsouunding "pop" and for a second ii feared a gusher. But is remained calm and poured a very dark red that looked almost black with a huge tan head and lots of sticky lacing from the long lasting head. The nose was light roasted malts, and lots of the zinfandel from the barrel. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy. Te flavor shows lots of roasted malts with some chocolate and again that zinfandel. With your eyes closed you would almost thing you are drinking wine. Very enjoyable and somewhat different porter.

On tap at City Beer, San Francisco, 28th March 09. Good vanilla oak aroma and flavour. Smooth palate, not too heavy. Dry rather than sweet.

Draft. Ruby-black beer with a cream colored head. Red wine and caramel aroma. Oak and red-wine flavor with malt and light caramel. Medium/medium-light bodied. Oak and red-wine lingers with some malt. Wine dominates.

Not a good beer. Weak, bland, and almost a sour taste lingering. I would hope that this was a bad tap, because it was watery, and showed no evidence of barrel-aging. Avoid.

Poured deep mahogany red with a generous piilowy head, good retention and great lacing. Very subtle roasted coffee aroma with notes of dark fruit. Tart fruitiness up front on the palate, with the roasted coffee staying in the background. Sharp wine-like presence follows and lingers. Lighter than I expected, and the tart aftertaste is a bit of a turnoff. Think I’ll pass on this next time.
