From bottle. Pours amber orange with thin white head. Resinous hop aroma, some vanilla oak, slightly fruity, piney. Tate has resin, pine, slight fruit, oak vanilla, lots of caramel, malty finish, slight bitterness. Bit cloying but in the whole quite nice and interesting

Keg in Euston Tap. Cloudy orange. Nose is malty, tangerine, toasty grain, very bready, and some citrous. Taste is same but with bit of red berry fruit and caramel. Not sure what this is trying to be.

At York tap. This is a first rate example of how to use those fragrant NZ hops. I think they need a sweetness to balance them and this does it beautifully. A honey/malty oaked sweetness combined with the tropical fruits makes this a quality brew. Kudos to tempest

Keg at the Euston Tap, London. Pours mostly clear ruby-gold with a small head. Some lightly toasted caramel on the nose. Medium sweet flavor, some bread, herbal bitters, some light oak and vanilla. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly bitter finish, some sweet bread, light herbal hops, toasty caramel. Pretty nice.

Cask @ Kay’s Bar. This is a premium bitter. Clear amber colour, creamy dense off-white head. Nose is caramel, citrus, barnyard, hay, maybe bit of oak. Flavour is fruity, malty, caramel, touch of hay. Medium bodied. This is something different. Very well done.

[cask at Cloisters Bar, Edinburgh] Deep nut-brown pour with a decent white head. Caramel malt on the nose, some sweet vanilla, treacle and spice. The surprises continue on the taste – a fruity/spicy mix with sweet toffee and a little hop. As the beer warms, vanilla takes over as the sweetness rises. Very strange – doesn’t really taste 5.9% but there’s a lot going on in there, without doubt [03112011]
