3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask @ The Southern, 270712
Black, yellowish tan creamy head
Aroma - soft roast malt, faint chocolate
Taste - soft mellow roasted malts, soft dark malts, light bitter, Iím not getting much here, too understated
Palate - soft carb, thin to medium body, smooth texture. Finish - soft mellow roast malt, hint of chocolate, not much of a finish
Overall - Itís really smooth but itís too understated to be honest - still above average beer

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Funny brewing method--clif bars!--Big aroma of apricot jam! Tangerine and nectarine, too, and a flavor like a Bath and Body Works lotion. Chocolate comes out, too. Grapefruit and other citrus pops out, too. Very dark, nearly totally opaque, black beer. Builds with a funny burnt flavor in the finish. Still, interesting and ambitious. 3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 2012. Gravity dispense. Jet black in colour with ruby highlights and a thin white head. Zest of orange peel in the citric aroma - surprised by that! Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a dilute maltloaf base with hints of roast malt and bitter chocolate orange notes. Strong dusty earthy flavour present in the hop resins, giving a good bitter bite in the long aftertaste. Finish has a citric tang to it, sucking at the cheeks with fresh clemantine notes. Caught by surprise with that! An unusual stout and well recommended.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Not much aroma really, hints of sweety malt and done roast nuts but thatís about it. A little thin really, needs more body. Flavour is quite nice though, some sweety, fruity notes leading to a bitter, ashy finish. Not great, itís all a bit too tentative and subtle, but very easy drinking.
