Cask, Regular;
A porter designed to be smooth and irresistible, Black is back, with a controlled roast character, hint of coffee with chocolate on the side followed by a depth charge of palate cleansing late American hops.

Keg at Jeremiah’s Taproom, Edinburgh. Very dark - brownish black, if you will - with a pretty little crown of beige head. Aroma’s a bit quiet. Roast malt, blackberry and strong coffee coming through. Taste is strong and bitter, but the malts feel too aggressively roasted, giving the impression of overstewed diner coffee.The finish bears the brunt of the roasted malt, leaving the aftertaste with a slightly acrid feel. Despite this lack of balance, it’s a pretty good beer all told.

Cask-conditioned at the Adam & Eve, Bristol 2/11/2015. Dark brown with a frothy, beige, head. Coffee notes, fruity hops, plenty of roasted malt character, some plain chocolate and a lingering, toasty finish. Enjoyable.

33cl bottle at home from Kaapse Brouwers, Rotterdam. Body is nearly black, head is small, brownish, creamy, average lasting, good lacing. Nose is roasted coffee, light smoke, flavor is dark roasted coffee, coal, ash, light smoke, fresh water. Light sweet, heavy roasty bitter. Finish is medium lasting roasty heavy bitter. Medium body, dry texture, soft carbonation. Quite easy dessert beer, simple, tasty.

Bottle: Chouffe glass: Creamy tan head. Blackish brown body. Aromas of tobacco, dried herbs, wood roast, manure, laurel Flavour of tobacco, toast, malts, some bitters, light tints of dried herbs/leaves and caramel... Aftertaste is bitter, toast/light roast, caramel, malts and tobacco... Low carbo, light creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied, watery texture. Flavour and aroma are light, watery and not that inviting. But the aftertaste seems to be the strongest part of this beer.

Bottled as Elemental Dark Ale at 5.1%, batch ED01 BB 04 Jun 2016, large sample. Dark brown cooor, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of fruity hops, bramble, bit citrus, blackcurrant, slight coffee and roast. Medium fruity and roasty bitterness, some citrus and pine. Sloght mocha sweetness. Wonderful stuff. Very fruity for a porter, almost towards black IPA, although bottle mentions just 35 IBU.

330ml bottle from Tempest. Thin tan head, a little lacing. Very dark brown body. Nose is roasted nuts, vanilla, a little smokiness. Flavour is creamy chocolate, coffee, roasted nuts. Bitter coffee finish, gentle bitterness lingers on the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, light carbonation, good thickness. Great porter.
