Bottle from Trembling Madness in York. Pours mahogany with a thn beige head. The aroma is sweet with a strawberry fruitiness. The taste has light spice with more red fruits bafore chocolate and tobacco. An initial sweetness is taken over by a lingering bitter finish. Slightly medicinal, but tasy all the same.

5.1%ABV. Porter Nose has woody, smoky aromas. There is a medicinal ume like character to it. There are coffee and dark chocolate aromas. There is a fruity roundness to the the nose that suggests ripe black or dark cherries, maybe plums or prunes. Mouthfeel is watery. There is full-body contact from the grain bill right away with rich smoky, coffee, burnt wheat toast and deeply roasted chestnuts. There is a rounded briefly sour aspect to the palate which suggests prunes or ripe stone fruit, maybe a fresh date or a honey plum. The finish is dry, full of oak and has some nice woodsmoke. Goes on Favorites List!

bottle at home from alesela
deep ruby brown with fluffy beige-white head. cocoa&toast on nose. immeditely rather brash and roasty, almost burnt, good body and mouth feel but more stout like. Some red berry notes come out as it warms with pleasing biscuit mid-tones but he roastiness is just not in balance making it less pleasant to drink.

Keg at Jeremiah’s Taproom, Edinburgh. Very dark - brownish black, if you will - with a pretty little crown of beige head. Aroma’s a bit quiet. Roast malt, blackberry and strong coffee coming through. Taste is strong and bitter, but the malts feel too aggressively roasted, giving the impression of overstewed diner coffee. The finish bears the brunt of the roasted malt, leaving the aftertaste with a slightly acrid feel. Despite this lack of balance, it’s a pretty good beer all told.

Cask-conditioned at the Adam & Eve, Bristol 2/11/2015. Dark brown with a frothy, beige, head. Coffee notes, fruity hops, plenty of roasted malt character, some plain chocolate and a lingering, toasty finish. Enjoyable.
