2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
15th April 2013
Craft Clerkenwell. Keg. Bright clear amber beer, tidy pale cream coloured head. Sweet and slightly skewed malt, toffee, dried fruits and candy fruits. Malt cream. The individual components are okay but overall it doesn’t hang together. A bit of a sweet mess. I thought Tempest were beyond this point now. Disappointing!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Keg at the Anderson, Fortrose. It pours deep amber, with a thin white head. The nose is wood, rye, sweet orange, prune, date and raisin. The taste is rye, spice, brown bread, underlying caramel, nut, raisin, grape, resin, some alcohol warmth and citrus notes, with a deliciously bitter finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and well balanced. The world of pain that was involved in making this was worth it!

Keg @ CBC Clerkenwell. As warm up to the glorious celebration of my birth. The pour’s deep amber with a tiny head. The aroma’s of zesty orange citrus. Some sweet cotton candy. Light caramel malts. Sugar cookies. The taste is raspberry tart, a bit of tropical cantaloupe and orange. Slightly grainy body. Toasty malts. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, a solid balanced effort.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ the Cobbles Inn, Kelso. Pours a lovely reddish-brown with a nicely proportioned head. The nose is of pine, spice (from the rye) and a creamy biscuity backbone. The taste has the grapefruit, I expected to get on the nose, but there’s less of the pine, though still plenty of the spicy rye. The palate is medium bodied with a big creamy yet tangy texture and a long clean finish and no sign of the alcohol. Overall, an excellent beer.
