COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Midnight IPA takes a traditional India Pale Ale, a hoppy high alcohol beer originally brewed in England in the 19th century, and adds a 21st century twist: itís jet-black. Brewed using a new roasted wheat from America (called Midnight wheat, and giving our beer its name), this black IPA achieves its colour without most of the roasted flavours and aromas you would normally expect in such a dark beer. Our take on this new sub-style of IPA is as hoppy as they come. The aroma offers an explosion of piney resinous hops, achieved through multiple kettle and dry hopping charges of Columbus, Centennial and Simcoe. If you were to close your eyes, youíd be convinced you were holding a highly hopped IPA from the Pacific Northwest. Itís deceptively smooth and sessionable, so tread carefully.

500ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a medium light tan head, which lasts fairly well and leaves good lacing. The aroma is an enticing blend of aggressive pine resin and grapefruit hops with dark, nutty malt notes. Powerful grapefruit hops up front mix with a milder hint of pine needles before giving way to bitter coffee and roasty malt. A touch of cocoa appears towards the finish, which is dominated by pine needle hops. A decent black IPA.

Interesting beer. Hop flavour, roasted malt bitterness, yet really sessionable. Will have again

Bottle. Very dark brown, almost black, with a creamy tan head. Aroma has powdery chocolate, musk, pine and assorted flowers. Light body with soft, tingly carbonation and a lengthy bitter finish. Flavour has grapefruit, lime, apricot, pine and coffee. Low on roastiness, the hops are all over this beer, and it works very well. Very nice and quite sessionable.

Tried a sample at the brewery last month. Black in body with tan head. Grapefruit in the aroma, also in the taste, pleasant bitterness and then some cocoa notes. Very drinkable.

500ml bottle from mane liquor. Pours a deep borderline black with a 1 finger dense white head that just hangs there till the end. Very mild "green hoppy" aroma. Great roasted malt and espresso taste that follows with a faint mocha end. The most notable part of this beer was the smooth mild bitterness of the hops which hit you from the start and just makes u want to go back for more! The only disappointing part of the beer was when I realised I didnít have any more left.

Just a really nice smooth beverage with a nice amount of bitterness and tasty aroma bought about by a well brewed and used hops. Almost pitch black poor with a tan head that does not disappear. This is an awesome beer that goes down so easily.

Bottle, 10C. Almost black with a light tan head that fades to a coat then sticks around. Aroma of grapefruit, orange blossoms, pine, licorice, a hint of cocoa (or my eyes are deceiving my nose). Silky mouthfeel, low carbonation. Taste has slight sweetness with a little mocha, plenty of bright citrus fruit, pine, lingering bitterness. Very clean palate which for me makes it lack a little charm - but the flavours ring out so clearly itís more than a fair swap. Very good.

500mL bottle, pours black with a tan head and an amazing sweet hoppy/grapefruit aroma with a hint a darker malt. Straight up i get the grapefruit flavour as the perfect carbonation dances over the tongue. Its all backed up by a nice malt backing which is hard to pull flavour from because the hops dominate as they should. Amazing black IPA and i have loved every temple beer so far.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2013 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours brown bordering on black with a small, dense off white head which lasts for the duration of the beer. Nice lacing. Nose is quite hoppy. Lots of pine and grapefruit. Alludes to an unbalanced, very hoppy black IPA. Upon tasting I donít get that at all. Extremely well balanced in taste. Begins with the expected piney hops but quickly mellows out mid palate into soft powdered chocolate. Finishes very mocha like. Soft chocolate undertones grow over the top of the slightly sweet coffee hints that are there. Most enjoyable beer from Temple. Loved it
