4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Jado (251) - Camp Hill, AUSTRALIA - FEB 20, 2013
Pours the expected ’midnight’ black, although some reddish highlights can still be seen. Fluffy tan head with visible carbonation. Toasty malt and pine resin come through in the aromas. Pine resin and hoppy bitterness are to the fore on tasting, but this mellows out leaving a more rounded chocolate and malt flavours at the end, with just a hint of vanilla. This is a big but very well balanced black IPA. Very tasty indeed.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Maris (749) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - JAN 21, 2013
From a 500ml bottle on 21/1/2013. Pours a very dark amber with a medium to big tan head which disappears quickly. Has a pleasant pine hop aroma with some dark malts (particularly caramel) in the background. In the mouth, there’s lots of sweet milk chocolate and caramel, which is set off against a big piny resiny hop finish, which features a touch of roastiness as well. The palate is quite creamy and the carbonation lively. A very good black IPA with heaps of character. Makes me proud to be an Aussie!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pyobon (728) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JAN 19, 2013
(Bottle) Beautiful looking beer - opaque almost black with large dense tan head. Lovely hoppy aroma with grapefruit, pine and some floral hints. Palate is lighter than you might expect for such a dark beer, having medium body nice fine carbonation. The flavour is also lighter than appearance leads you to expect, but is in no way lacking. This is a hoppy beer, but not over the top in bitterness. The flavour starts with a balance of roasty and tangy notes before the hoppy bitterness rapidly develops for a reasonable bitter finish. An unusual and very nice beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 stoutnick (164) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JAN 15, 2013
UPDATED: FEB 20, 2013 Smell is hops and roasted character. Taste is more resiny quality in amongst the dark malts. Palate is perhaps too bitter after roast fades; not enough fruity dry hopped character. But it is a beer which grows on you, once you can deal with the bitterness. Ended up liking the intensity and boldness.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bluebetty (1019) - AUSTRALIA - DEC 2, 2012
Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with dense light tan coloured head. Plenty of lacing as it falls away to all except the thinnest film. Aromas show lots of sweet caramel and plenty of suggary sweetness. Hops show through as sour oranges. A little roasted grain brings it all together. Nice. Taste is dominated by resiny hop bitterness with only the some feint sweetness upfront. Finish is dominated by hop resins which hang around for ages. Medium mouthfeel. Nive beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lunkie (1168) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - OCT 12, 2012
Dark brown colour excellent head and lacing. Chocolate malt hop atoma. Smooth fruity spicy chocolate malt flavour. Rich lingering palate.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Davros (1477) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - SEP 3, 2012
Pours black with a lasting, light tan head.
Nose shows pine, citrus, nectarines and grapefruit, along with very soft roasted malt and some crystal malt.
The roasted malt is more prominent as a flavour, but there’s also a fair hit of sweet malt underneath to stop things from getting to dry. In terms of hops it’s an assault of pine and grapefruit followed by an aggressively bitter finish.
Excessive carbonation.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gramoit (251) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 30, 2012
Pine hops strong on the nose. Taste is very smooth with medium-high bitterness and includes plenty of hops but with a strong dark chocolate flavor.
2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 fletchfighters (817) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 21, 2012
Poured black with a light brown head.
Tropical fruit notes with a big roast background. Nice.
Heavy roast that turned to nail polish remover. Harsh bitterness. Could not finish as was overwhelming undrinkable. Pitty as nose and first sips were good
