COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This brew is a hop-head’s dream! The Citra hop variety lends bright, tropical citrusy notes, and is well complemented by the rich, slightly sweet background. This is an all-around big beer, in every way.

A steady pour into my Teku glass produces a one-finger thick, light tan colored head. The beer is a rich amber color that shows a lightly hazed, orange-tinged, copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a bright tropical fruit and woody hop character to it that jumps nicely out of the glass. Lychee, ripe tangelo zest, kumquat zest, floral apricot jam, guava notes, woody mango, and touches of fruity herbal notes.

Lots of fruity notes up front, but towards the middle a weird, curing plastic like note, as well as a touch of Band-Aid starts to become noticeable; the latter becomes more pronounced through to the finish where it lingers on the palate. The fruit flavors contribute notes of ripe tangelo zest, guava, peach blossom, touches of bitter orange, as well as a solid, but not overly biting hop bitterness. The malt character is definitely subtle here, as it should be, touches of caramelized malt, toasted grain, a slight nuttiness, and a touch of sweet tea character. The body is quite light for a Double IPA, even the alcohol is a touch on the light side for a Double IPA, and has me wondering about the strength of this beer.

The front part of each sip has quite the promise, but the finish definitely is quite a bit more funky than an IPA should be (even if it were a Belgian styled IPA). Definitely has some promise, but also has some flaws that make it hard to really enjoy. The plastic / Band-Aid notes are subtle enough that most people won’t notice; at times I can almost not taste it, though at others it is too pronounced. Still this is reasonably enjoyable, and I would love to have this without the off flavors in the finish.
