DaSilky1 (1608), San Diego, California, USA Dec 11, 2004 extremely lacey off white head..honeydue aroma..a balanced but boring iipa with caramel, honeydue, and honey flavors...looks damn nice, taste damn average. hopdog (4569), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 7, 2004 On tap @ the San Diego Strong Ale Fest Day 2. Poured a dark mahogany color with an averaged sized off white head. Lighter tastes and a little thin. Has almost a light chocolate flavor to it. On of the weaker IIPAs I had at the fest (not bad but did compare to the elite IIPAs). DarkElf (2661), La Jolla, California, USA Dec 6, 2004 (Draft: 2004 Strong Ale Festival, Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA. Day 2, Beer 3) Not your typical double IPA. This one is fairly roasty and malty, but with little sweetness. It’s moderately bitter and somewhat hoppy, but the roasted character is the dominant flavor. Mild roastiness in the nose as well, but the mild sweetness indicates a balance that isn’t there in the flavor. Medium in body and dry on the palate. Ruddy amber color. Light tan head is small, leaving some patchy lacing. This one’s all right, but not what I expected out of a double IPA.
