Hauling oats is hard work. Donkeys are motivated by carrots. Here at Tenaya Creek we are motivated by beer. Especially when it has the subtle aroma of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.
It is easy to forget about the long journey ahead when a dark ale with a golden tan head is in hand. So drop the reins, pry open the lid and enjoy the rounded, smooth pull. Take a breath and savor the notes of semi-sweet chocolate and hearty oats.
Your donkey deserves a reward for all its hard work

Nose has nice roast smell but not too strong. Thick black colour with a thin layer of caramel coloured foam. Starts a bit harsh with coffee and cocoa flavours with a hint of burnt. Burnt flavour turns to strong coffee in the finish.

Clean, coffee & oatmeal aroma. Smooth on the palate, with chocolate, coffee, and roasted oats. Very creamy and smooth drinking, especially when on a nitro tap. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a deep brown color with a tan head. Aroma of oatmeal, roasted malt, coffee and bit of chocolate. Taste follows with roasted malt, coffee, oatmeal, with a bit of dark chocolate. Coffee bitterness that lingers into the finish. Fairly full body, a bit of oatmeal grittiness for character. Not really what I consider a sweet stout but still pretty decent stout.

Rating #1449 - 22.01.2015 - Bottle from Coop. Older bottle. Beautiful dark brown pour with a fairly foamy tan head with mild lacing. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malt. Taste is oaty and thick, almost sludgy, not really creamy on the mouth feel, but layered with hints of earth and molasses. I was looking for more creaminess in terms of mouthfeel, more cocoa, and more bitterness. But maybe Iím OUT OF TOUCH

Thanks Dresden! Pours Black with minimal head. Aromas of roasted malts and dark/semisweet chocolate. Flavours follow suit. Decent. Wished the oats provided more texture. A touch watery on the finish as well.

Pours a deep velvet brown/cola. A moderate pour produces a wonderful tan head that sticks around (lacing). It looks nearly perfect. Present are complex aromas of: caramel, bread, hay, cereal, chocolate, coffee, nuts, some floral hops, some cheese, some masked alcohol, and a little clove. The taste is fairly balanced with a burst of sweet/sour giving way to bitterness and then salt/umami. It actually has a lighter body than I prefer for this style, itís watery. Soft bitter finish. Itís a good beer but the watery mouth feel combined with a metallic presence throughout (even the aroma) holds it back.
