Brewed using Pale, Caramel, Chocolate, Roast, Victory and Black Malts we obtained a beautifully massive black beer with an off-white head. With a thick, stick to your tongue body and espresso and mocha flavors, this Imperial Stout is surprisingly easy drinking. The body is balanced with a malty sweet finish and high amount of bitterness obtained from Magnum Hops.

On tap at the brewery. Pours an opaque black with a solid nrown ring around the glass. Aromas of licorice, roasted malts, and chocolate. Flavours are bitter dark malts, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and a bit of dried fruit.

Pours motor oil with a brown head that disappears. Not impressed. Aroma is pleasant and simple: caramel, floral, dough, and some vanilla. Taste is off balance sour/bitter. Some sweetness gets mashed by a big bitter finish. My criticisms seem to be aimed at elements that are common traits of this style but somehow this beer just doesnít do Imperial Stout right. Too rough around the edges.

2012 vintage. A deep dark imperial stout with a thin lacing dark brown head. In aroma, sweet chocolate malt with light coffee notes, OK. In mouth, a sweet chocolate malt with light coffee notes, grassy hops, licorice, basil, thyme, rather strange but nice. On tap at Aces and Ales Nellis.

22 oz. bottle from my Utah Santa. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, hints of coffee, some earthy bitterness, no frills, just a decent straight forward Russian Imperial stout.

"Renamed Imperial Stout, coming in at 9.3%. Pretty impressive for this brewer. Easily the best of the 6 Iíve had. Aroma of heavily roasted malts, coffee, dark fruit, licorice, hints of smoke. A touch rough in the mouth but very complex. Hop bitterness comes through too. Good full body, just a bit fizzy, and nice to look at. Warms nicely. "

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted and chocolate malts, some coffee notes, light toffee and caramel sweetness, and some light bitterness. Flavor the same with a little too much sweetness and a very tiny off note. Average to smoother texture. A decent beer but not the best of the style at all.

Tenaya Creek Imperial Stout Aroma: 8/10. Complex! Malt, molasses, treacle, with slight overtones of citrus and pine from the hops. Appearance: 5/5. Beautiful black as ink pour with a lingering dark brown head. Taste: 9/10. Sweet chocolate syrupy sweet with bitter notes of coffee, cocoa, molasses, and honey. Lingering finish of dark chocolate cocoa bitterness. Palate: 4/5. Generous mouthfeel with an interesting frothyness on the tongue leant by the high-protein head. Really very nice, but one point deducted for the harshness of the cocoa finish. Could do with a little more restraint there. Overall: 18/20. Itís a great beer. Rich in chocolate sweetness and lingering, long cocoa powder bitterness. Definitely one Iíll keep my eye out for again. Itís not the most complex imp stout out there, but it excels in being very strong at what it does present!

Draft at the source 12/19/13. Black color, dark brown head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of prunes, raisins, plums, coffee. Taste is rich, smooth, dark milk chocolate, coffee, vanilla. Nice mouthfeel. Good stuff.
