COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For those not familiar with a Barleywine, it is a Strong Ale, originally brewed in England in the nineteenth century but is now brewed worldwide. The name Barleywine basically means that it is a beer as strong as wine. Guaranteed to warm you up on a cold evening! Brewed using premium 2-Row, CaraRed, Crystal, Carafoam, and Wheat malts. We also used Magnum, Cascade, Summit, and CTZ hops. Cheers!

In short: A sweet and boozy bronze ale with over-the-top sticky bitterness. Intense American Strong Ale (not typical Barley Wine).
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed when approximately 6 months of age. Bottle from mcberko, thanks a lot Matt.
The look: Cloudy bronze body topped by a medium beige head with medium retention and leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is rather hoppy (piney, wooden, resinous) along with toasted cereals. Taste has basic caramelized malts, rum baba, some toffee, a bit too much alcohol, a whole lot of bittering hops. Very resinous and sticky bitterness. Alcohol is a bit apparent. Medium body with a medium carbonation. This so-called Barley Wine is as bitter has most Double IPA. Not very corpulent and also very hoppy with a bitterness overwhelming the malt sweetness, so I thought this was more of a no-style hoppy American Strong Ale than a real Barley Wine. Named after the mythical jackalope, an animal that either never existed or Noah had a don’t ask don’t tell policy and he ended-up with two gay jackalopes on the arch.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Caramel, hoppy, fruity, toffee, warming alcohol. This is a well made barleywine.

First Nevada brew. In a trade forget from who. (i think Ibrew2or3). Thanks! Blue wax top with 3/15/12 release date. Poured 2-20-13. Pours a deep dark amber with one finger cream/kahku colored head. Aroma is all malt, bready biscuts, some hop presence, toffee (but not sweet). Thick mouthfeel with adequate carbonation. Caramel malt and toffee, with some bitterness. Sweet honey biscuts. A very nice barleywine...and from what I can gather extremely affordable. Really balanced with the malt-hop presence. Heavy but easy drinking. Warming alcohol but not boozy at all. Pretty lacing. Nicely done.

Rust-amber appearance, decent head. Candied fruit nose, pear and apple Jolly Rancher, and Belgian candi sugar. Medium viscosity, quite hop bitter and sweet at the same time. This one seems as if it is at an awkward age. A bit younger, and it might have had the fresh zip of a double IPA, and another year or so, and this might have mellowed nicely as a barley wine.

22oz bomber from AJ's Marketplace. Release date 2/13/12. Pours a rich mahogany with a creamy head that lasts. Deep alcohol aroma, with hints of raisin and yeast. Crisp taste, very alcohol forward, with a solid balance of piney hops and caramel malt. Surprisingly light mouthfeel. This is my fourth bottle from this release, and each has been excellent. Overall, a great beer and a superb value. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Central City Liquors, Surrey, BC; released 3/15/12
Mahogany color, clean, with generous creamy head and nice lace. Very nice aroma, malt, caramel, wood oven bread, and powerful hops. It has a strong dark caramel flavor, sweet but not sticky, with excellent resiny hops, and hints of raisins with rum; the mild nuttiness in the final is well conceived; the bitterness level is obviously very high.
Excellent straight American Barley Wine.

Second bottle celebrating Ella’s arrival with Moose. This followed FW XVI and was a nikce second act. Easy drinking barley wine tht leans towards the sweet and caramel spectrum with just enough hop balance to keep it even. I prefer this to the barley wines with a bigger hop bite. Well done.

Was in the neighborhood of Sun Devil Liquer thought would show the wife around the the place. Well future wife that is she said wow this stuff is expensive for one bottle. Ok on to beer good carmamel body with rusty tan head. Caramel notes on the nose and and may be little off since haven’t had some of these in a while. Good flavor mix and thick bready texure. She didn’t care for it much but a good beer overall.

Caramel colored pour. Christmas trees and toffee in the nose with some hints of tropical fruit. Flavor is sweet and resinous. Sticky and chewy.
