3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very strong caramel and toasted aromas. Cloudy orange, browns, and a thin head. Sweet, sticky toffee; heavy cream; toasted oats; whole wheat; good body and more sweetness in the finish. I like this beer but I don’t think the bitterness balances this out and it becomes cloying.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear deep amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains, a touch of caramel with a hint of light fruits. Flavor has caramel, sweet grains and a bit of toffee with just a hint of light fruits.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampler flight on tap at the brewery (Las Vegas, NV). Pours a deep darker copper pour, healthy luscious glow with no real haze at all. A small frothy ring dies to a tannish loose layer, laces small. Aromas are sticky and sweet caramel, bread, biscuit, orange marmalade. A bit thicker and full on the nose, gentle allspice, some earth, but sticky and sweeter feel. Initial is firmer end of medium bodied, some sticky malts meet red fruit, touches of red twizzler, caramel, and biscuits. Some toffee, toast, and gentle sticky toffee. Middle is a bit of oxidation, toffee, and some gentle dryness, an mellow warmth starts to hit the palate. Some gentle toastiness, a bit sticky, well carmelized into the backend. Toasty, a bit dry, lots of carmelized malts. Finish is that linger flavor profile, a bit nutty, caramel and carmelization, a bit toasty and a bit sweet. This is a pretty solid beer, just under the circumstances it’s a harder sell (Labor Day in Vegas).

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/13/2012. Pours fairly crystal clear ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, brown sugar, pine, floral, grapefruit, orange zest, orange rind, biscuit, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and hop notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, orange zest, grapefruit, raisin, floral, brown sugar, biscuit, pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Light earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, floral, orange zest, grapefruit, raisin, floral, brown sugar, biscuit, pine, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of malt and hop flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a moderately creamy, slick, syrupy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barelywine style. All around great balance and complexity of deep malt and pine/citrus hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Classic barleywine smell, good sweet, alcohol smell, brownish/gold appearance, one finger head, great sweet/bitter combo taste, almost a honey taste to it. This is a great barley, will taste even better aged.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a bomber (dated 3/15/2012). A somewhat muddy dark burgundy color with a thin bubbly head and very sticky lacing. Very malty nose with caramel, toffee, an oak resin tone, and a slightly hoppy, boozy finish. Quite woody forward with a bunch of piney hop flavor balanced by sweet caramel and raisin. The hops start to dominate the taste after awhile. Medium body; sticky, resiny mouthfeel with a bitter finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle sampled at Kurt’s Blarneywine tasting on 3/16/13. Clear copper pour with a medium beige head. Malty and caramelly aroma. Malty flavor with caramel and toffee sweetness, along with a touch of bourbon (despite not barrel-aged) in the finish.
