Inspired by an original recipe created by Hugh Tennent in 1885 and brewed using malted barley, water and hops in the heart of Glasgow. It’s about as local as export lagers get.

330ml green bottle from an offie in Rome. Pretty much free. As ’Tennent’s 1885 Lager’, 5%, BB Aug 2016. Birra Scozzese. Seems to be brewed solely for the Italian market. Pale orange, clear, lightly sparkling, small scummy off-white head, light lacing. Aroma is sweet pastry - custard slice, cornflakes. Body is light yet fills the mouth with foam, tingly carbonation. Taste is tonic water, light metallics, very pale malt, light sugar. Not much taste. Not unpleasant at all - just very light. Too fizzy on the stomach.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Picked this up just because it had reduced price. Didn’t expect much of it but it’s a decent lager. No off-taste or aroma in any way. It’s a clean, easy drinking beer, a good example of well done lager.

330ml bottle. Pale yellow color. Medium size, white head, stays. Malts and terrible hop exctract in aroma. Sweet, sugary, papery, hop extract, corn, cereal in taste. Bad. Never again!

330ml bottle (Stockmann, Tallinn)
Outragious limey hop extract aroma, quite a turn-off. Shame, as they’re clearly trying to pretend that they care about hops. Ugh, a slickly bland creamy malt, something makes me gag just a little. Weak watery palate, but fitting carbonation. Finish does some extracty hop bitterness. Pretty poor lager, only the aroma was any good at all. Hops were so extracty, but I have to be a little bit charitable as I recognised the fact that they’re noble and citrussy. Almost certain overrate, but I was in a good mood after the last beer (not a tick, a homebrew).

Can 50cl, a clear yellow beer with medium head. Nose is on dry malt, wet paper touch and slightly oxydated like. Aroma is very low, watery, dusty hops, wet paper, again a poo fruit notes oxidated like, very boring and thin.

33cl bottle, 5%. Yellow color, standard white head. Lagery nose. Aroma is grainy, strawy hops. Taste is flat, metallic bitterness in the finish, body is light, carbonated. Simple lager, somewhat dull. Average green bottle stuff.

Bottled 0,33L. Golden yellow color, medium ehad resistance, nearly no bubbly presence. Malty and dried grassy and alcoholic nose. Poor taste, medium prickly body, a little watery with notes of dampen grains and hay. Excessive bitter perception for this style.
