33 cl bottle, 9%. Nice copper-red color with a creamy offwhite head. Sourish on the nose. Aroma is malty, biscuits, some caramel, liquor, brandy. Metallic spirit bitterness in the back of the throat. Taste is sweetish with violent bitter finish. Body is medium. Warming, burning. Finish is short and alcoholic. Boozy stuff.

small frothy offwhite head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. clear average-density dark amber body. aroma: moderate malty, cereal, caramel, alcohol. if: moderate sweet. ff: moderate sweet light bitter; average duration. palate: medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation and moderate alcoholic finish.

Lore (1267) - Budapest, HUNGARY - DEC 29, 2014
brilliant appearance of darker amber colour and one inch off-white head - and this is the only the pro, unfortunately; regarding cons: both the aroma and the taste is ’empty’ - there is only some maltiness, alcohol and maybe some minimal whisky notes - I don’t know why the hell it is categorized as Barley Wine...

At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Brilliant, ruddy chestnut with very little life evident. Head rises a good two inches on the pour to lapse back to a thin mattress of white. Rusty nails, cardboard, rye bread fresh baked, light soy sauce and kelp make for an interesting nose. Wow, what can you say? Puckering I suppose. This is heavily tannic and astringent and made my mouth cave in and my eyes water. At the same time it is sickly sweet but not residually so. Alcohol is amazingly restrained. Rusty, bloody flavour dominates a sherryish back drop and notes of burnt sugar and the bread of the nose. Light to medium in body with foamy carbonation. Bready, woody, rusty length with plenty of astringent malts playing havoc. A little bit ’ugh!’ (33cL, BB 31/07/15, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Clear brown/red pour, aroma is booze, cereals and malt sweetness. Cereal character more present at taste, booze well hidden and sweetness less present. Mouthfeel is lacking something as overall beer is.

Bottle from Brewhouse Brisbane 130914. Copper in colour with a sought burn in the back of the throat from the high alcohol content. A beer to sip.

Dark ruby colour, small head. Lots of raisins on the nose, some caramel, overall quite malty. Taste is sweetish, with some hints of pepper. This truly deserves a better rating than it currently has here.

This is an acquire taste I think. Beautiful ruby/copper looks, no head, no lace. Aromas of roasted nuts with a great first sip with smokey notes of malts, liquor and spices that later becomes disappointing with the kick of the high alcohol volume that shows both in mouth and palate. Tangy, earthy, long lasting finish. Medium body with light carbonation. Not the best scotch I tasted, but not a bad beer per se unless you take in consideration the brewer classification (barley wine). Then that becomes problematic.

Bottle. Copper with an off white head that fades to the rim fast. Toasty aroma with toffee, biscuit and (erm) pear drops. Lowish carbonation, not much body. Sweet toffee and prune juice, hints of spices. Boozy, but not really hot. Empty and dullish, but not terrible and certainly not check-your-eyesight bad.
