The best beer I had in Europe. I have read the other reviews and agree with some whole heartedly. I tasted in Pitlochry, Scotland, UK. It came as a suprise to have such a delightful cold one. Righ head, smooth, sutle taste. Now dont get me wrong I love Strong brews. But this pint was the cream of the icing of the cake.

A good smooth Nitro ale. Very similar to its stablemate, Ember 80/-.

Not one of this brewer’s better efforts. Has a tendency to go a bit flat. Poor in comparision to its Nitro brother (Velvet 70/-).

I quite agree Sigmund, served by a welltrained landlord in Ayr, it was one of the best Bitters I had in Scotland for a whole week. Smooth, almost creamy, it really became my wife´s favourite.

Excruciating smooth. On tap at Loops (Bewley’s Hotel, Glasgow). Wow, this beer was smooth. When I ordered a bitter, the waitress was apologetic that it would be Tennent’s Velvet. Unfortunately, I believe the head and smoothness were attributable to nitro. Nice maltiness to boot.

Nice chesnut colour with a fine smooth creamy tan head.
Aroma is mostly of toasty mnalts, not bad.
Nice smooth toasty, toffeeish malt taste. Small bitter aftertaste.
Very nice creamy smooth mouthfeel.
Very drinkable, would be easy to pound a few of these.

Again, canned and draught versions are slightly different. Deep amber colour, creamy head, mild velvety malty bouquet (draughtflow can, 3.5%, labelled as "Scottish ale 70/-"). On the tap it’s a bit lighter in colour with fine citric hoppiness in the nose and palate. Very tasty, indeed.
Earlier Rating: 8/19/2004 Total Score: 1.7
Soft reddish ale with strong winey taste (canned, 3.5%). Draught is slightly better and quite different.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2013 Velvet from can. Nice looker. Very faint notes of something - caramel/toffee?. Slight maltiness. Smooth.........rerated as Tennents special - 1/2/13. Thought it was okay and very sessionable indeed.........quaffed a lot (even some as sweet black and tan..blasphemy)

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2006 BUt, It seems everywhere in the UK tap beers are Ale. With a low flavor, and almost nothing of body, at least wasn’t that bitter as other english Ales.

Used to drink this often at lunchtimes, a good light meal in itself. Light brown in colour, nutty notes, tasting of currents. Careful where you buy from, must be tap - avoid cans.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2007 Keg at The Three Judges, Glasgow. Copper coloured beer, off-white head, nice lacing. Nice aroma of butterscotch and malts. Moderate malty flavour, hints of butterscotch, minimal hops, not very exciting. I have also had the nitro-keg "Velvet" version in Glasgow previously - looks nice, smooth mouthfeel, easy drinking, but not much of a challenge flavourwise.
