COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Translated from the Dutch on brewer’s website: Originally brewed as a Christmas beer, this irresistible dark beer for tasting at 7.1% ABV became a permanent fixture almost immediately. It’s a mildly fruit, lightly sweet and soft dark warm fermented abbey beer with three types of malt and two types of hops and additions of light and dark candy sugar. The biggest proportion of malt is Munich barley malt, which has been killed a slightly higher temperature to give a slightly more coloured character than usual. This gives Ter Dolen Donker its biscuit-like flavour. Added to this are light hints of caramel from some caramel malts, along with the typical flavours of light and dark candy sugar. Our Donker is bottle conditioned.

A reddish brown ale with a thin receding moka head. A sweet candy sugar aroma with light plums, molasse. In mouth, a sweet malt with nutty notes, molasses, peaty, dubbel-like, not bad. Bottle at Mondial 2011, June 11 2011.

An alright abbey dubbel. Nothing too outspoken, perhaps it has potential to appeal to a wide range of people.

330ml bottle from Sliterij Van Bergen, Eindhoven, NL! The beer in glass is almost black with good red cast and huge cream head. The smell is sweet malty, with hints of liquorice, overall very neutral. Starts roasted malty, fairly sweet, hints of liquorice. The further course is a little berry-sourish!

Reddish brown, dense off white head. Aroma has caramel, candy, sweetish. Taste is a bit bitter, smooth, a bit sweet, fizzling in mouth, reasonable finish. After a few sips, it appears to be less sweet than at the beginning.

Bottle. Clear dark amber pour, thin foamy off-white head that leaves quite some lacing. Aroma is sugary malts, some roasted malts and faint hops. Flavor is slightly sweet, somewhat fruity, spicy and slightly bitter in the finish. Nice balance. Creamy texture and above average carbonation.

Special beer for me because it’s the first my girlfriend, who knows nothing about beer, bought me. It’s a decent double. Slightly sour fruit and nice alcoholic finish

Bottle from Achelse Kluis. Different label, ABV is 7.1%. Dark reddish brown with a huge tan head. Fruity and yeasty nose, slight hints of sour berries, but also chocolate. Good dry chocolate flavours, balanced by berries. Good carbonation. I think this is a very good dubbel.

Very dark brown-orange. Big head. Aroma’s of dark fruit (cherish, strawberry), very sweet, raisins, chocolate. Sweet red-fruit taste, brown sugar, honey. A bit to watery. A bit to simple to talk of a good beer, but for sure, it’s not bad.
