COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Translated from the Dutch on brewer’s website: Originally brewed as a Christmas beer, this irresistible dark beer for tasting at 7.1% ABV became a permanent fixture almost immediately. It’s a mildly fruit, lightly sweet and soft dark warm fermented abbey beer with three types of malt and two types of hops and additions of light and dark candy sugar. The biggest proportion of malt is Munich barley malt, which has been killed a slightly higher temperature to give a slightly more coloured character than usual. This gives Ter Dolen Donker its biscuit-like flavour. Added to this are light hints of caramel from some caramel malts, along with the typical flavours of light and dark candy sugar. Our Donker is bottle conditioned.

Very deep, dark burgundy with a solid, lasting beige head Mostly a smell of hops, a good amount of sugars, something refreshing as well The taste is mildly bitter, some caramel without being really sweet as the bitter elements come out stronger, medium carbonation; roasted as well, raisins. A warming, full taste The aftertaste is more mellow, roasted with still that slightly sweet hint. Don’t drink this too cold because that tends to temper the aftertaste and makes it appear slightly weak; at slightly warmer temperature it becomes more pronounced, also a bit nutty Good, enjoyable, solid brew. Interestingly enough closer to room temperature it tends to taste more similar to a stout
