Translated from the Dutch on brewer’s website: Originally brewed as a Christmas beer, this irresistible dark beer for tasting at 7.1% ABV became a permanent fixture almost immediately. It’s a mildly fruit, lightly sweet and soft dark warm fermented abbey beer with three types of malt and two types of hops and additions of light and dark candy sugar. The biggest proportion of malt is Munich barley malt, which has been killed a slightly higher temperature to give a slightly more coloured character than usual. This gives Ter Dolen Donker its biscuit-like flavour. Added to this are light hints of caramel from some caramel malts, along with the typical flavours of light and dark candy sugar. Our Donker is bottle conditioned.

Bottle@home. No foam. Dark brown to black. Roasted, coffee notes the biscuit is rather hidden in the two first. Medium body. Dry. Some yeast fruity complexity. Fine.

Tap at Belgian Beer Weekend. Pours dark brown with a large, creamy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, dates and leaves. Flavor is sweet malt, dates, light leaves and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

330cc bottle. Pours almost black with tanned coloured head. Lots of roast, coffee, a bit chocolate, caramel and dark fruits. Some "belgian yeasty ness". Kind of sweet at first but bitterness of the dark malts and hops cut through for a dry finish. It far from the typical bruin. Much more like a stout brewed with a strong belgian yeast. Really nice

Super brune. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Almost opaque black color with light brown quite thick head. Aroma has caramel, ripe fruits and raisin. Taste is first sweet but ends with a somewhat bitter and not that sweet aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, coffee, chocolate, spices and some bitter elements.

Bottle. Very dark brown with big beige head. Brown sugar, plums, dried pear, rye bread, hopjes, more fruits. Light chocolate and licorice. Quite sweet with light tart touch. Medium bodied with full carbonation. Not bad.
