Translated from the Dutch on brewer’s website: Originally brewed as a Christmas beer, this irresistible dark beer for tasting at 7.1% ABV became a permanent fixture almost immediately. It’s a mildly fruit, lightly sweet and soft dark warm fermented abbey beer with three types of malt and two types of hops and additions of light and dark candy sugar. The biggest proportion of malt is Munich barley malt, which has been killed a slightly higher temperature to give a slightly more coloured character than usual. This gives Ter Dolen Donker its biscuit-like flavour. Added to this are light hints of caramel from some caramel malts, along with the typical flavours of light and dark candy sugar. Our Donker is bottle conditioned.

Bottle. Alc. 7,1% Clear dark brown color with a large forthy to creamy good lacing fully lasting beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, chocolate, light hoppy, perfume, moderate yeasty, light brown sugar. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Good balance but a bit borring ! Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

33 cL bottle. Pours cloudy to hazy golden brown with an orange glare and a creamy brown head. Dense dried fruity and malty aroma, mild cinnamon/cardemomme spice note too. A bit oxidised as well. Fruity and breadish dark flavour, on the dry side. Shows a bit of spice note again in the flavour towards the finish. Mild liqourice into the finish. Dry and with a little bite. Complex, yet nothing I would return too - too dry for my liking.

A hazy red beer with a light brown head. The aroma is sour with notes of berries, while the flavor is also somewhat sour with notes of berries, wood, and honey.

Bottled. Colour is dark brown/ruby red with a small beige head. Aroma is roses/tulips along with strawberries and sweet malts, also some hints of yeast. Flavour is yeast and some red verryish notes along with toffee in finish. Very nice stuff in it, but the balance is not the best. As it warms up it gets a bit metallic.

Bottled. Mahogany colour, creamy beige head. Sweet and caramelly with soft mouthfeel. Some orangey hops over a velvetty malt pond. The sweetness take over to some extents in the somewhat syrupy finish.

Dark amber color. Nice aroma of malt, caramel, spices (cinnamon, mace…), chocolate. Quite sweet, with all those characteristics. A very good Dubbel.
