12 oz. bottle. Dark brown with a medium, tan head. The aroma is caramel, cut grass, chalk, and milk chocolate. The flavor is malty sweetness, with a nice mild bitterness in the finish. Medium body, a little astringent, and thick. Overall, this is a nice winter warmer, with a delicious low-level bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber color with an impossibly tick light tan head on there. Nose has some grains and caramel to it. Taste is a bit of alcohol, leading me to believe it’s stronger than it is, and reminds of a barleywine with that caramel.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2014 (Bottle) I like it! Slightly on the bitter side but still with some heavy sweetness. A good stronger ale. One of my favorite "six-pack" beers.

On tap at the Terminal Gravity brewpub in Enterprise, OR. Pours a dark semi-red brown with tan head. Aroma of candied fruits and malts. Taste is mostly malty with a somewhat bitter hop aftertaste. Pretty well-balanced. Sticky mouth-feel, not too heavy.

Bottle from Whole Foods on Westlake, Seattle; 8.4% ABV
It pours a cloudy dark amber to brown color with generous creamy head. Mild caramel aroma, with a hint of mature apples. Good body, with moderate sweetness; strong caramel flavor, again a hint of apples which is not a positive sign, then the expected strong bitterness, and some hop resins; some nuts in the final.
Not bad, but unexciting.

On draught at Lucky Labrador for the 17th Annual Barleywine and Big Beer Festival. 2009 vintage. Dark amber color. Aroma is tart citrus, toffee, honey, and pie cherries. Taste is tart pitted fruit, roasted malt, simple syrup, and citrus hops. Aging has added some oxidation. Fairly well-balanced strong ale.

Dark brown, reddis body with a tan head. Aroma has mostly sugar and malts. Pleasantly rich mouthfeel, mild carbonation. Taste is mostly bitter with a little bit sour aftertaste. This one is a pretty good winter beer.

Bottled: unk A: ruddy dark clay brown. single finger of taupe foam falls to a sheet of the same. No lace. murky. S: Hops, cardboard, toffee, darker malts. Nice, almost well-aged barley wine nose. T: Sweet malts have tones of caramel, spicy hops and some alcohol. M: thin with hi carb. Initially feels creamy, then gets really carbed, weird. slick finish. O: decent enough.
