tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 5, 2006 Biscuity malts in the nose are joined by woody and leafy hop notes with strong fruity esters. Clear copper-orange coloured body is topped by a low, off white head that lasts. Orange leafy, woody hops, moderate bitterness and grainy, toasty underlying malt flavours. Medium body with soft textured lively effervescence. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT, Rastacouere and Siroy. Siroy (220), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 11, 2006 [ Bottled ; chilled ; dates are unknown ]
A mostly lasting thin frothy white head tops up a clear light orange body. Moderate lacing. No particles. Many small bubbles. Aroma presents malt being light grain while hops are heavy perfume ... Yeast character is heavy fruitiness. Also, there are evident evocations of citrus-like fruits Initial flavor is heavily bitter and leads to a well laid maltiness. Finish is long and bitter. medium to full body... oily texture... Soft carbonation... Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Mar 9, 2006 Pale apricot, hazy and topped by a good off-white cover. Mostly fruity aromatic hops hint at all kinds of fruits among which would stand out peach, apricot and tangerine. Balancing toasty maltiness comes out both grainy and bready. Gently citric with no exaggeration, growing very bready toward the finish, like pie crust and exploring perfumey soap/shampoo lavender notes as it warms. Soft light carbonation, medium bodied. Quality IPA. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 6, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A thin strand of foam shrouds the clear, early dusk.
-Biscuity malt goodness and orangey hop fruitiness coalesce beautifully.
-Tame citrusy fruitiness gravitates around the leafy, tea-like hoppiness.
-The comforting carbonation isn’t too lax nor effervescent.
What if you dig deeper?
-Citrus fruit are amazingly meek in the aroma (it’s a West Coast IPA?)
-Hop bitterness lasts magnanimously.
-Impressive balance is at play, there is just enough caramel and biscuity maltiness for the calculated hoppiness.
-A meditative session is prescribed with this intelligently hopped IPA.
Bottle; no date. dwedin (238), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 5, 2006 Had three pints of this last night at two different Portland bars. Very good all around. hazy dark orange, citrus flavors and a grassy bitter finish. roner77 (35), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 2, 2006 An interesting IPA for sure. Perhaps it’s the mix of Marris malt with PNW hops, but this beer has a murky orange color with a piney citrus flavor that is certainly enjoyable and readily drinkable. This beer has caught on like wildfire in Portland and it’s refreshing to see is take taps from the likes of, gag, red hook, gag, Bridgeport, or, gag, Pyrimad. Rock on little beer. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 17, 2006 Updated: Mar 11, 2006On tap, it’s a bit fresher tasting, and a tad bit better. Same rating, overall. Bottle: Pretty different and very nice biscuity and doughy malt and piney, fruity hop aroma; on the darker side for an ipa, burnt orange in color; medicinal notes and earthy, grassy hops; modertate body with a decent, nipping bitter finish; an English/PNW hybrid ipa. Very good. 8/3/7/4/15 3.7 harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jan 24, 2006 This is one of my favorite new IPAs. Not as rich in malt character as some of the others, but this has really rich hoppy bitterness that follows right through from the aroma into this sweet orange acidity with some really nice resiny oils. Finishes clean and just ever so slightly bitter.
